I hope Bobby Jindal gets to be president in 2016, so we can, just for sh*ts and giggles, have:

1. Chris Christie as Sec. of Health and Human Services
2. Newt Gingrich as the House Chairman on Ethics
3. Peter King as House Chairman of Foreign Relations
4. Todd Akin as Senate Chairman of Penis-Goes-Where
5. Rick Scott as Head of the SEC
6.  Scott Brown as Head of the Bureau of Indian Affairs
7. Rick Perry as head of the EPA
8. Rick Santorum as Secretary of Education
9. Herman Cain as Secretary of the Treasury
10. Mitt Romney as Head of the ATF

I just...I mean, can we REALLY be this self-destructive as a nation? Literally NO ONE with any scientific credibility doubts climate change anymore. There might be bickering about how much is our fault versus how much is other factors, but it's still happening.

Why do we not make it a requirement that you have to have an educational background in science to serve on these committees? It doesn't even have to be climate science, literally just something from the STEM field.

2013-03-20 02:59:26 PM
Well, if what he's saying is genuine, it could be worse. FTFA:

"What is the real threat? What are the economic impacts of those threats? And what are the economic impacts of those remedies?" he asked, explaining his approach. "Some of the remedies are more expensive to our economy than the threat may turn out to be."

It sounds to me like he's conceded that global warming is real, and that it's manmade. And he's probably correct, that  some remedies are too expensive. The corollary to that is some remedies are  not too expensive and should be implemented.

Oh, who am I kidding. Much more likely, he'd deem even the smallest and most sensible measures as too expensive, and probably thinks all of the science is a hoax. :-/

I'm not as convinced as a lot of people are that man-made climate change is the threat they think it is. I think it is probably not as immediate as some people do.

I love that the opinion of a Congressman with an econ degree, in office for just 3 months is more relevant than that of all science and specifically the climatologists who have trained and worked on the subject for decades.

Global warming creates global climate change, which makes the weather more severe in most places. Wilder temperature swings, more violent storms, more frequent droughts or floods.

See? It's not that hard.

It could be worse. The guy who cited the Noah story from Genesis as proof God would not let the planet be destroyed by a flood could be chairman.

"Rep. John Shimkus is standing by a controversial comment that global warming isn't something to worry about because God said he wouldn't destroy the Earth after Noah's flood.

The Illinois Republican running for the powerful perch atop the House Energy and Commerce Committee told POLITICO on Wednesday that his understanding of the Bible reaffirms his belief that government shouldn't be in the business of trying to address rising greenhouse gas emissions."

dsmith42: "Rep. John Shimkus is standing by a controversial comment that global warming isn't something to worry about because God said he wouldn't destroy the Earth after Noah's flood.

My recollection of that is God saying he wouldn't destroy the Earth by flood again.   Next time maybe it will be giant squid beings.

Anyway, I am curious to know when a fight between the insurance/real estate industry and the gas/oil industry will really get going.  At some point, with storms like Sandy, insurers are going to be less than willing to put with reps that are in denial about climate change and unwilling to try and do something about it.
