Because when you plunk down $100 for pants, generally women dont want them to be see through. Especially in yoga where downward bending positions prevail.

FTFA: Did Eclat make a bad batch of $100 yoga pants

No, they made a bad batch of $10 yoga pants. Lululemon then goes on to sell them for $100. The mark-up is for purported cellulite-sucking bamboo pixie dust or some shiat. As it points out in the article, they manufacture for GAP too, probably making pretty much the same pants to be sold by them for $40.

back in HS my girlfriend was on the drill team and the girls all wore tights/yoga type pants to practice in and all of them had a pair of Umbro style soccer shorts over the tights---I asked why and she explained that you didn't wear underwear underneath the tights because the lady bits couldn't breathe and then you were more susceptible to yeast infections----and the shorts were worn over so you couldn't see the lady bits. Maybe it was true maybe not, but it might be an explanation why this is such a big deal.

Well, I actually use them for yoga but I dont feel comfortable running to the store in them on the way home. The people in yoga dont care, they just want to be comfy. I may in regular work out pants but not yoga. I wear them as an alternative to hot shorts. Which no one needs to see me in. When one is sweating that much in yoga, you dont want to be sticking to things. It makes life simpler.

Let's just say they were intentional.  Lululemon walks a very fine line between acceptable to wear in public and X-rated.  Their customers want to push the 'acceptable to wear in public' envelop as far as they can.  Sometimes, it goes too far.  That is why they get to charge $100 for a pair of pants.  It is trendy and edgy.  And gets the boys attention.

This.  Real yoginis are focused on their meditation, not the bodies around them. ("Yogis" are male practitioners.)  If you wear the pants in public, you're an AW shouting, "I do yoga."

That's the thing with those pants.  When you're in front of a mirror they appear to be opaque.  Now think about what parts may become stretched out during poses that would reduce that opaqueness greatly.

I always thought they knew they were being exposed until I asked someone I knew about it and they were like "really, you can completely see through in that area when I am doing anything with outstretched legs?"

Yoga is awesome.

I was standing in a hallway at a community college when a cheerleader came up with her pre-yoga-craze yoga/workout pants (I think they had less spandex in them with more jersey). Every breath or movement she took, her buttocks started quivering and the ripples moved out like a sexy rock tossed into a heady pond of love pudding. She stood there for 5 minutes or so just  quivering and rippling and shimmying...

Till the day I die...I swear...till the day I die.

Ahhh I was wondering how "sheer" they really were. I don't see why everyone's complaining.

Pretty much any thin material when stretched will get thinner.  Every pair of yoga pants I've seen does this.  Methinks it has something to do with the thread count but I am by no means an expert on yoga pants manufacturing.  I just like the way they look, and could really care less about the exposure part.  If she's okay with it, I'm okay with it.

Because when you plunk down $100 for pants, generally women dont want them to be see through. Especially in yoga where downward bending positions prevail.

Ive purchased nearly everything but pants from lululemon. Can't swallow the price tag.

personally, i hope the trend lasts a long, long time. i find it amusing that some women seem uncomfortable when there are dirty old men trailing behind them. do they actually expect to walk around in public wearing pants that reveal their naked shape from the waist down and not lure perverts? deal with it or stop wearing yoga pants in public, ladies. i speak on behalf of all perverts, we're tired of the dirty looks.

2013-03-20 01:15:08 PM
First of all, $100 for yoga pants is ridiculous. They can be had for $20, if you just stop giving a shiat about brand names.

Second, just wear some sweat pants or track pants if you don't want people to see your lady parts. You don't need special pants to do the poses. My yoga instructor is in there with khakis and sometimes still has his belt on, and he does just fine. You're there to stretch, not be sexy.

Nothing wrong with staring at hot girls in tight pants in general, though.

If you think stretching for extended periods of time does anything for your weight then you had better hope that you look damn good doing it, because your brains sure aren't going to get you anywhere. Hell the revealing clothing is probably the only thing about yoga that does help with body fat reduction. It encourages the wearer to be in good shape in order to wear the clothing without looking like somebody stuffed a sack full of cotton-balls.

Moisture wicking will make you overheat easier as well. Sweat is your body attemting to cool itself down during exertion.  If coolness is your goal you might be better off avoiding moisture wicking clothing as well. I agree with you about finding good workout clothes for women though, my wife has a fit if anything happens to hers because she knows it'll take forever to find something she likes.

I disagree. I know a couple of guys that have dropped anywhere between 30 and 100 lbs by a combination of diet and yoga. No weights, no aerobic exercises, no anaerobic exercises, just yoga. Sure, you're not going to get "swole" like you would with weights, but you will get strong (in a lean sort of way).

If you think yoga is only about flexibility and balance, you probably need to stop going to the women's classes.

I would imagine this would be true for hatha or the like but "yoga" is not one singular defined activity.

A Hot Power Vinyasa class is no joke.  600-1000 calories depending on who you ask.  That is up there with any of the most intense workouts.

But yes most people who do yoga are not doing it for weight loss for obvious reasons.

Why see through yoga pants issues shouldn't be taken lightly.

No one takes her lightly.

How could anyone take such a heavy thing lightly?

I doubt if there's enough helium on, in or near the earth to float that boat.

??

so a woman says that she likes the way she looks in a certain style of clothing, and the response is to tell her to get back in the kitchen?

Well that a promising start to a thread every farker is hoping turns into a "hot girls in see-through yoga pants thread"

/how DARE you suggest this is a bookmark?

and serious question for any mythical farkettes taht may show up:  It has been my anecdotal experience that many  women consider panties an optional/undesireable thing when wearing yoga pantsand work-out clothes in general.  Is this true or do I just happen to hang with strange women?

I wear underwear when I workout. I tend to sweat a lot on my lower back and I have it in my head ill have a sweaty ass crack too. I've never tried to confirm this but I like the extra  layer if only for piece of mind.

For god's sake cut the labels out before you wear them.  That's really distracting.

Hmmmmm, sometimes my phone plays tricks with web addresses.
Go to you tube and search for 'milf in leggings HD 1'.

That chick is a fatass. Guarantee if she was standing up her ass cheeks would be drooping down. Reminds me of the fatties who pose lying on their backs to camouflage their saggy tits and the AWs who take self-portraits from above to hide their KFC jowls.

Girls can wear these hooh-hah-baring pants in public, but if a guy wears crotch-exposing spandex pants he's considered a socially-maladjusted freak.

Stupid double standard. Almost makes me miss the 1990s.

spentshells: my herniated disc: HotWingConspiracy: The entire point is that it shows off the geesh. Sweatpants would do just as well for yoga, nobody wears them.

I've found it a huge pain in the ass to find work out clothes that aren't tight, at least around here. Sweatpants are often too hot and heavy for certain types of classes. I rarely find find lighter fabric pants that arent at least a little clingy, espcially if I want moisture wicking like underarmour.  I FINALLY found baggy UA pants for women during a recent trip to NY.

I amuse myself by being the only woman in baggy clothes in yoga, kickboxing etc. its a workout for gods sake, not a meat market.

There is only a certain body type that can pull off those tight lululemon type yoga pants anyway, and camel toe is still camel toe, a fashion faux pas regardless how hot you are.

/shudder

ghey

Thats right!  Too fabulous for yoga pants.
