There's a reason strip clubs are dark.

Well that too. It works for both sides quite well.

The only strip club I've been to is in WV (for my brother's 21st birthday) and it had decent looking girls.  We were getting ready to leave then the only black girl there came on stage.  All the hill-jacks left the stage seating as soon as she walked out.  When my then-girlfriend-now-wife saw this she walked right up to the stage, gave the girl a $10 bill, and had a quick, not-too-quiet chat about how the guys there were rude jackasses for leaving and how my now-mother-in-law was once a stripper after she moved to Nevada.

/ending the night at a strip club was her idea
//never met my mother-in-law

I was arrested for trying to sell books in Paw Paw. I got out of it. No one there could prove they were books.

/not really arrested
//did really go door to door trying to sell books

As an Amazon Marketplace dealer I got a chuckle out of that. Were you doing this in the 19th century, when door to door salesmen would take sample sets of books out looking for subscribers to the series?

Late Spring/early Summer 1990, between my junior and senior years of college. It was encyclopedias or something like that published by Grolier. I wasn't making any money because I didn't sell anything (no one did) so I left after a few weeks.

This sounds like a similar lawsuit some strippers brought up in Florida(?). Dancers are independent contractors but they are restrained by certain club rules and must pay part of their tips back to the club. Might be brain melt, but the previous lawsuit included who had to pay for a strippers unemployment insurance.

Can't Google it at work. The wonderful, brilliant and I dare say handsome administrators are probably monitoring my every click. It was a mistype, I tells you. I meant to go to ConsolidatedSecurityCenter.com and typed p0rnhub by accident.

Is it bad there? The only one I've ever been to was outside of Morgantown. I thought about stopping at the one by the casino next time I'm out that way.

Tell Me How My Blog Tastes: West Virginia titty bars are well known as some of the coolest places to hang out in the DC Metro area.  No pasties, no rules!  They were naked, totally naked.

//Actually, there are lots of rules.  Like no dancing.  I went there w/a race car driver once (in a large group of people) and he got kicked out for it.  "No one dances 'cept the strippers, bub."  The was the night before I went to law school.

1. West Virginia is not considered a part of the DC Metro area.
2. DC strip clubs are totally nude, as well.
3. There are lots of them.

Lady Beryl Ersatz-Wendigo: Please- the correct term is "ecdysiast."  "Exotic dancer" always makes me think of those Balinese girls wearing gold costumes.  Which, perhaps, is what the people of WV are into.  Maybe they're more comopolitan than I gave them credit for.

Transparent shower stall in which girls lather up lasciviously.  Sometimes birthday boys and grooms being led to slaughter are allowed in there.

The industry's comp system is corrupt and grossly unfair.  I'm glad to see dancers fighting it.  But I wonder what's going to replace it and how dancers' incomes will be affected.

I live in the eastern panhandle of WV and along the WV/VA border there is a high concentration of strip clubs.  A lot of the girls that work there live out of state but can make better money working there.  Lots of people from out of state come to these clubs because the girls get all nude.  Smoking and drinking is also allowed.  The girls in this area are usually pretty good looking too (see the out of state comment).

Mateorocks: . West Virginia is not considered a part of the DC Metro area

I live in the eastern panhandle and I can be in DC in an hour.  Lots and lots of commuters live here.  Given, the eastern panhandle is an oddly tacked on bit of land for the rest of the state (seriously, look at it on a map), but it is indeed part of the DC Metro area.

I've counted at least a dozen such suits in the past couple of years, and the clubs have settled or lost every one.  Spearmint Rhino settled for $13.5 million.  Workers comp is a bigger issue than unemployment insurance.  Many injuries occur on stage, from torn knees  to broken necks.

It's about two hours to get to a West Virginia border from DC.

I will accept that Baltimore, not DC, could be considered a main metro hub for some residents of West Virginia. I've never been there, but I'm guessing that folks in Morgantown would consider Pittsburgh to be their main metro hub.

If I'm wrong, and there are thousands and thousands of folks living in WV walking around wearing RGIII jerseys or Nats hats, please forgive my ignorance.

Again,I'm not saying it's not a terrible distance away, I know plenty of folks from West Virginia. What I'm saying is that it's no more considered a part of "Metro DC" than Delaware.

que.guero: Am I too late to suggest that in WV, "exotic" means that she has all her teeth?

Yes, yes you are.  Find some new material.

I've been to strip clubs around Morgantown where the girls are university co-eds and don't look too bad, some downright hot (and with a full set of teeth!).  Then again, the night before my wedding my groomsmen took me to an absolute shiathole near Jane Lew where it was a trailer backed up to a house, and the women were what you'd expect for such a highbrow establishment.  My favorite had to be at a place that has since burned down.  They lost their liquor license so they advertised as BYOB and a $10 cover.  Those patrons at least 21 also got a plastic cup and were directed to the "free" keg.  Those under 21 got a black marker X on their hand that easily washed off.

One bachelor party I went to we ended up at a club outside town and we sent our groom to the back room with the lone black girl.  He seemed to enjoy himself with "Venus".  Then at the wedding reception we slipped a Bananarama tape to the DJ.

/His new bride loved the song and started dancing.

The ones around Morgantown/WVU tend to have some good looking girls ("Hummers" was great-think it is still under that name?)...and the two "Southern Exposures" also benefit from nearby colleges in Huntington and Beckley. Never been to the panhandle ones.  I lived 173 feet from the front door of Hummers and 200 feet from an indoor shooting range-it was heaven! (Yes I measured)  Oddly enough it had great food too.

But those 3 or 4 are the only good ones I've seen.  The rest unfortunately are just as stated: double wides (women and trailers) with dancers who may or may not take the cigarrette outta their mouths.  The "Jefferson Strip" near charleston is full of these.

They are fully nude though-some around Morgantown would even allow 18 year olds in and therefore you could bring your own beer/cooler.  Had some good times in that one! (route 7> lollipops).

Y'all can knock this beautiful state all you want but it's a great place to live as long as your only pastimes aren't shopping and restaraunt hopping. You gotta be tough or talented to live in WV, the rest leave and talk shiat about it because they couldn't make it.

The toothless (ok some are) /imbreeding comments are from people that have obviously never been here (but expected)...although we as a state are fat.

Let's discuss the merits of the case.  When is someone an independent contractor and when are they an employee?
Key factors include:

Who has to actually perform the work?
An I.C. merely has to guarantee that the work is performed to an agreed upon standard.  An IC can sub-contract the work if they wish.
An employee is required do do the work him/her self.
So, can the stripper in question send her room-mate to cover a shift?

Who sets the hours and location?
An I.C. can come and go as they please, within reasonable constraints.  A construction worker can show up as early as the site opens, or as late as it closes.  When there are multiple trades involved, there may be scheduling issues with access to the site, and other dependencies (The painter can't go in before the drywaller), but generally, as long as the work is progressing at an agreed upon pace, you can set your own hours.

An employee is required to start at a set time, and leave at a set time.

Now Consider:  (ftfa)  a $15 penalty if they arrived late for work and a $100 penalty if they did not come to work without calling in advance.

Does this sound like an independent contractor?

Exactly. I'm curious as to which of our (and this is the deal nationwide) representatives make sure this scam continues to operate. It's so clear that strippers are NOT independent contractors, that it makes you wonder who is getting paid and how much to make sure the labor department never cracks down. Sounds like a good investigative journalist could unearth some real corruption here.

/I'm betting it's a very long trough
