Warren's actual suggestion is to raise the federal minimum wage to over $10 an hour in incremental steps over the next two years, if I remember correctly.

But that's not going to generate as much outrage as, "OMG!!!! Liz Warren wants to raise the minimum wage to $22/hour!!!! Big Macs are going to cost $17!!!!!"

Essentially, when Warren was teaching at Harvard (and at some other position, I think) she checked a box claiming she was of native american ancestry. This was apparently based on stories told in her family that she was part Cherokee (I think that was the tribe). She was also touted as a "Minority" faculty member by Harvard.

There's absolutely no evidence she ever received any preferential treatment for doing this, but, of course, since she's very white and doesn't look native american, the GOP smear machine went into high gear. Brown embraced this smear and used it as an attack against her character.

Too bad for him, over 60% of Massachusetts voters didn't care about this... In fact, the majority of the "outrage" came from groups outside Massachusetts, The Boston Herald (Conservative leaning tabloid) and the piddling few Republicans still in Massachusetts.

yup.  And what's more, the GOP elites who tanked her appointment know they f*cked up.  not that they're ever going to admit to it in public mind you...but they know it, we know it and they know that we know they know it.

it's gotta be driving the GOP insiders absolutely bonkers seeing Warren abusing bankers.  sure, they scream about 'petty politics' and hate hate HATE that she uses her position to 'trap' bankers with 'trick' questions....but there's not a damn thing they can do about it.

After reading the whale report, I bet that Mr Dimon is really wishing that she had received that appointment.

Jamie Dimon doesn't give a rats ass what happens. He made enough last year alone to live the rest of his life in unbelievable luxury. There will be absolutely no consequences to him for his actions, failures and deceit.

Its gotten even worse now that the Republicans and Libertarians are slowly merging together. Warren really his the nerve of people who are sick of letting them get away with anything they want. No she didn't... Her proposed raise to the Fed minimum wage is to get it up to $10 or so with gradual increases over the next two years. You can look this up.

I wouldn't even go that far. She just asked where that money went, because it didn't go to the worker. Dude is reeeeeaaaally trying to make something out of nothing. All the right wing blogs are doing the exact same thing. Just a coincidence I guess!

Ok, so Senator Warren grew up in Oklahoma and was told she had some Native ancestors. Family legend apparently has it that her parents marriage was frowned upon because her mom had some Native blood or something.

Years later, Harvard used her as an example of the diversity of their faculty, because she is 1/32 native.

This drove the right wing farking INSANE when they found out. Apparently, it means that even though she grew up lower middle class and got married as a teenager and STILL managed to attend college, law school, and become a distinguished faculty member at Harvard University and a world famous economist, all of that was from Affirmative Action, because a dirty Indian can't possibly do that on her own.

Also, she doesn't have PROOF of her ancestry, so she MUST be lying. The fact that very very few people can proof their ancestry is irrelevant to these people.

It made Scott Brown look like a racist idiot, but people still trot it out.

Also worth noting that while 1/32 Cherokee is very much, it IS the exact same percentage of Cherokee blood that the current chief of the Cherokee nation has,  so, if it's good enough for him..

She didn't suggest it, the Center for Economic and Policy Research did (PDF).

And they weren't suggesting it, they simply say:

If the minimum wage had continued to move with average productivity after 1968, it would have reached $21.72 per hour in 2012.

Mentioning the results of a study = endorsement. Apparently.

Because the Republicans always need to have a tidbit from someone's past they can attack to avoid having to discuss anything that person says or does in the present and the volume in their echo chamber is always turned up too high to be able to tell whether or not it's working.

Warren/Clinton (Hillary) in 2016!

Please, no. We'll see how 2014 goes, but if the Republicans keep on their path* then 2016 should be the Democrats' race to lose. How about we nominate two real progressives? Like it or not, Hillary is an establishment hack who serves the machine more than the people. My dream ticket would be Colbert (Steven)/Warren or Warren/Frank, but I know that's an opium dream. Somewhere out there there has to be a real Man (or woman) of the People to fill a ticket with Warren.

*Unfortunately, I'm seeing the Republicans starting to "pivot" their econ positions away from crazytown, so they may seem sane to the general public by 2014.

Which, BTW, only exists at individual PRIVATE schools and colleges. It does not exist at the state or federal level. Interestingly enough, it does not exist at Harvard either.

it doesn't matter.  The GOP is going to hate Warren because she asks protected people uncomfortable questions.  they just tell everyone they hate her because she 'lied about her ancestry' to make themselves feel better.  it's just window dressing.  what has the Republicans mad as hell is Warren raking bankers over the coals.

But even that is kinda weird.  Warren is low (wo)man on that committee.  it's unlikely she will be able to really dig in and affect the banking industry in any sweeping manner during her first term.  But the rank and file GOP types are mad as hell - no they went f*cking ballistic - over a few question and answer sessions that ended up posted on youtube.  the GOP response to mere QUESTIONS should worry everyone.  what happens if/when Warren actually starts getting to the point where she can make serious reforms to the financial sector?

As someone from Oklahoma who always checks the Native American box on any form even tho I do not have absolute proof other than being from Oklahoma and having 80% of my relatives that do have actual proof of their native heritage and being told my whole life that the only reason I don't have proof is because of a fire at the Cherokee courthouse,  calling what Elizabeth warren did a lie is really stupid, ignorant of native Americans and Oklahoma and really just American history in general.

I plan on having the DNA test of my Y and mother side to see once and for all if its web possibly true, but I won't be mad at warren for not doing the same.

So... no details, just the usual conventional wisdom bullshiat where if one side keeps repeating something, eventually it gets accepted?

It seems like this whole running gag with Warren has developed purely because of a political attack that fell flat but the people on that side kept running with it as if it was true, and have since assumed the worst of their vague suspicions.
