SlothB77: Why should we take Stephen Colbert's sister any more seriously than if, say, Tim Tebow's sister if he has a sister and she ran for elected office?

He's a popular, squeaky clean personality that leans republican.  I'm sure the criticism towards her from farkers would be nonstop.

At this point, it isn't Colbert's Sister vs. generic republican.  It's someone not Mark Sanford vs. Mark Sanford.

I'll be voting for her against him for one single reason - out of the two choices, there's no way she can't be less slimy.  It's the same reasoning I used to vote for Alvin Greene, a probably retarded, unemployed, grown man living with his father and waiting for his slot on a sex offender registry to open up when he ran against Jim DeMint.

SlothB77: Ok, Sanford is a horrible choice for the Republicans, but what are sister Colbert's qualifications outside of being Stephen Colbert's sister?

If only their was a way of looking that up.  Seriously though, she has a very impressive business management resume.

Really - so no one even looked her up to see what she has done with her life? here you go...

"Elizabeth proudly serves as an advisor to the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Coalition (STEM,) dedicated to attracting under-represented and financially-disadvantaged youth to those fields of study. She also sits on the Charleston School of Law's Maritime Institute Advisory Board, as well having been a former member of the Advisory Committee of the College of Charleston's Intermodal Transportation and Logistics Management Program.

For the past five years, Elizabeth has been the Director of Business Development at Clemson University's Restoration Institute at the former Naval Shipyard in North Charleston in South Carolina. As Director, she has played a key role in bringing about the world's largest wind turbine/grid simulator facility-recognized internationally for both its technology and unique capabilities. Elizabeth also spearheaded the South Carolina Wind Industry's Economic impact findings, which concluded that this sector has already generated thousands of jobs and millions in wages and revenue for SC, with projections of exponential increases in all three areas over the next few years."

Someone knows nothing about Stephen Colbert.

Are you a Democrat?

Listen, it's a secret ballot. Yeah, I'm a Democrat. I'm not asking anybody to vote for Democrats or Republicans. I say everyone should vote for both candidates -- except me. Just let me vote for Kerry. Then we'll be fine.

And we should take Elizabeth Colbert Busch seriously because she's had a rewarding professional career and she's chosen to try public service. You know - like any citizen should be able to choose. And she hasn't tried to get public attention before - she's simply running for her local congressional seat. And she hyphenated her name LONG before her brother was famous.

If Tim Tebow's hypothetical sister just felt like running for Congress, she wouldn't be taken seriously - unless she had more going for her than "She's Tim Tebow's sister."

I think it's important to remember that the Sanford scandal was a scandal before we knew sex was involved. The affair was just the icing on the "wtf, did the governor just go AWOL? Who is running this state?" cake.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I know you're just trolling, but the best part is that many wingnuts actually think this. They are so addlepated that they don't know that Colbert is joking

The Irony of Satire: Political Ideology and the Motivation to See What You Want to See in The Colbert Report
"conservatives were more likely to report that Colbert only pretends to be joking and genuinely meant what he said... Conservatism also significantly predicted perceptions that Colbert disliked liberalism. "

Wasn't trolling; it was a tongue-in-cheek swipe at the folks who value looks over substance.

Its funny. Colbert wouldn't have made it this far most likely without her brother.

And sanford would have lost his junkyard years ago if not for his son.

The fact that they're even considering the guy who stole taxpayer money to fund sex trysts in Argentina with his mistress speaks worlds to the "family values" of South Carolina's 1st.

True that, sir. Inevitably the SC voters have a longer and more complex relationship with him than those of us that only heard about him when the national media issued his Amber Alert.

I'm just saying you never know. I've seen crazier things happen.

The voters of SC might want a bit more than four years of stability from a guy who abandon his family, friends, staff, and state over poon.

True, But, if you went AWOL from your job to bang your mistress in another continent, I'm pretty sure you'd lose your job.

Not many adulterers go MIA for such a long time at such an important job either.

I would totally play that up in the race. The guy just up and disappearing is more offensive to me than the actual affair.

I'd love it if Colbert's sister could win this seat. It's not going to happen.

I'm also shocked, SHOCKED to discover lowcountry voters are stupid enough to vote for that asshole Sanford.
