He's a popular, squeaky clean personality that leans republican.  I'm sure the criticism towards her from farkers would be nonstop.

At this point, it isn't Colbert's Sister vs. generic republican.  It's someone not Mark Sanford vs. Mark Sanford.

I'll be voting for her against him for one single reason - out of the two choices, there's no way she can't be less slimy.  It's the same reasoning I used to vote for Alvin Greene, a probably retarded, unemployed, grown man living with his father and waiting for his slot on a sex offender registry to open up when he ran against Jim DeMint.

That was my impression. He got less then 40% of the vote and they may need a recount to decide who he runs-off against. I've heard there's a pretty strong "anyone but Sanford" sentiment, so he's not a lock just yet.

Are you a Democrat?

Listen, it's a secret ballot. Yeah, I'm a Democrat. I'm not asking anybody to vote for Democrats or Republicans. I say everyone should vote for both candidates -- except me. Just let me vote for Kerry. Then we'll be fine.

And we should take Elizabeth Colbert Busch seriously because she's had a rewarding professional career and she's chosen to try public service. You know - like any citizen should be able to choose. And she hasn't tried to get public attention before - she's simply running for her local congressional seat. And she hyphenated her name LONG before her brother was famous.

If Tim Tebow's hypothetical sister just felt like running for Congress, she wouldn't be taken seriously - unless she had more going for her than "She's Tim Tebow's sister."

Really - so no one even looked her up to see what she has done with her life? here you go...

"Elizabeth proudly serves as an advisor to the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Coalition (STEM,) dedicated to attracting under-represented and financially-disadvantaged youth to those fields of study. She also sits on the Charleston School of Law's Maritime Institute Advisory Board, as well having been a former member of the Advisory Committee of the College of Charleston's Intermodal Transportation and Logistics Management Program.

For the past five years, Elizabeth has been the Director of Business Development at Clemson University's Restoration Institute at the former Naval Shipyard in North Charleston in South Carolina. As Director, she has played a key role in bringing about the world's largest wind turbine/grid simulator facility-recognized internationally for both its technology and unique capabilities. Elizabeth also spearheaded the South Carolina Wind Industry's Economic impact findings, which concluded that this sector has already generated thousands of jobs and millions in wages and revenue for SC, with projections of exponential increases in all three areas over the next few years."

Well, Stephen is a charismatic, smart fellow and Elizabeth was raised by the same parents and has a similar genetic makeup. One could reasonably expect that they would have a lot in common. If you agree with Stephen on a lot of issues it's likely (but of course not guaranteed) that she would have a similar view on issues.

One could also infer from the nature of Stephen's knowledge in the political arena that if we are inferring Elizabeth to be similar in knowledge and personality that she would as well have accumulated serious knowledge of politics.

However the Tebow family has shown no interest in politics nor have they shown they have much interest in anything else to make an effective politician, so reasonably one might approach a theoretical Tebow sister with more skepticism.

Of course this assumes a country of rational, intelligent people. So, no, I don't know why most of this country would take her any more seriously.

I dunno, does Tebow's sister have a resume like this?

source: Wiki

After graduating, she completed a South Carolina State Ports Authority business development internship, and worked for Associated Maritime Industries Inc, as a liaison between the AMI and the U.S. Federal and State Governments.[12] She then worked as the Regional Director for Sales and Marketing and the Director of Business Development at OOCL (USA), where she was responsible for international maritime relations and South Atlantic and North American sales.[13][14] She left OOCL in 2008, when she was hired to be the Director of Business Development at Clemson University's Restoration Institute, describe the Charleston Post and Courier as "the school's corporate matchmaker" for the University's development projects for wind turbine testing, water studies, and renewable energy.[12][15] Colbert Busch also works as the Director of Sales and Marketing Clemson's Wind Turbine Drivetrain Testing Facility.[16]
Colbert Busch is a founder and former member of the Executive Board of Directors of Charleston Women in International Trade, and former member of the College of Charleston's Business College Alumni Advisory Board.[17] She's also served as chairwoman of the 2006 S.C. Back in fall 2008 ConAgra was a bargain at $16 a share. And just to prove how stupid the market crash was THERE WAS NOTHING TO JUSTIFY THE DROP IN PRICE. Hell, with the spike in grain prices their value should have risen.

With a current P/E of about 22 it's not that great a buy, but as a company it's something you can put your teeth into. It's trading at a slight premium right now, should be around 28-30, not 35, but it pays dividends so regularly you could count on them.

KCCO: JackieRabbit: If you're not from South Carolina's first congressional district, you shouldn't care. Take care of the problems at home first folks.

I'm from SC-1.  Colbert-Busch has my vote.  It may have been different if a different republican had won the primary but there is no way I'll vote for Mark Sanford.

I met Sanford when I lived in Charleston. He was just a member of congress then. Daddy got him a job. I though he was stick-stupid. Fritz Hollings often ridiculed him publicly for blindly taking GOP positions that would put South Carolinians out of work. Sanford once got in front of the local cameras to suggest closing down a federal program that he considered pork barrel spending. That program pumped $200M and 1000 jobs into Charleston's economy annually. Hollings was beyond pissed. I was a bit shocked when Sanford was elected governor.

Colbert should announce he's supporting Sanford and then say stuff like, "I appreciate his strong support for our national trail system."

WhoopAssWayne: I like Sanford. He was never one of these moralizing family crusaders to begin with, and when some hot spanish tail showed up, he was all over it. Niiiice. clinton-glasses.jpg.

And we know the guy has brass balls the size of church bells. He asked his ex-wife to run his new campaign. When she balked, he responded her that, hey, this time maybe he could pay her. It really takes a massive pair to expect an ex that you have humiliated on the world stage to work for you - and try to get her to work for free on the first attempt.

Dr Dreidel: // also, Sanford? Really?
// it's like you don't want anyone to take you seriously

Who started taking South Carolina seriously? When did this happen?

Ok, I live in SC, I feel like I have front row tickets to the circus.

kqc7011: Does not Sanford still have to face a run off with the second place finisher?

yeah this is premature.

SlothB77: Why should we take Stephen Colbert's sister any more seriously than if, say, Tim Tebow's sister if he has a sister and she ran for elected office?

He's a popular, squeaky clean personality that leans republican.  I'm sure the criticism towards her from farkers would be nonstop.

Colbert most certainly does not lean republican he is extremely progressive. Or are you talking about his fake persona that he uses to make fun of Republicans?

LineNoise: Its funny. Colbert wouldn't have made it this far most likely without her brother.

Meh. She beat some old black dude that apparently runs every time in a special Democratic primary in South Carolina.  Steven is apparently helping her with fundraising, but she could have done this much without him.

thismomentinblackhistory: Sanford married his mistress, don't count him out. People love takes of redemption.

Not now. All she has to do is stick the knife in about his four sons' hearts being shattered with worry during fathers' day and suddenly no father there. There's footage of that. He is not there for his sons any more, they wete expendable, and he's not there for you, voters.

That's a no.

She's got the Colbert ear.

rufus-t-firefly: And we should take Elizabeth Colbert Busch seriously because she's had a rewarding professional career and she's chosen to try public service. You know - like any citizen should be able to choose. And she hasn't tried to get public attention before - she's simply running for her local congressional seat. And she hyphenated her name LONG before her brother was famous.

This is true.

The fact that I and most of America would be extremely amused by Stephen Colbert's coverage of his sister's winning an election is just gravy.

But then, Stephen Colbert is ridiculously amusing anyway. My goddaughter calls his show and Jon Stewart's "the real news," and considers any other current-events programming, be it Fox, MSNBC or NPR, to be absolute cussword by comparison. We let her watch both because they bleep the swears and any racy jokes go right over her head, plus she pleaded and did extra chores and was really good; that and I'm a really crap godmother. She is five years old and recently informed her preschool teacher that she wants to be a pundit or a space mercenary when she grows up.
