It'd be better if they added "...as a high-ranked seed".

No one expects the paste-eater to make an Olympic dive, but we'll laugh our asses off at Greg Louganis' mishap.

As a Lehigh grad that was my favorite game of all time.  OF ALL TIME.  Too bad they blew a 15 point lead in the second round to that 7' gorilla who couldn't even run properly.

On that you are right.  Nerlens Noel has thus far proven he's got the skills to be the next Hasheem Thabeet at the next level, and Willie Cauley-Stein's most developed ability is height.  If they do come back with this recruiting class, UK could be a monster.

If Noel develops some offense and Cauley-Stein learns how to play basketball, they could both be worth keeping around.

I think there is about zero chance Noel comes back.  Cauley-Stein could be good....well, decent.  But, he didn't progress much at all.  I get the feeling he's one of the ones Calipari is thinking of when he uses the word 'uncoachable'.

Jerry Westerby: All we Dookies ask is that the next time you're tempted to mention Lehigh, you remember last night.

Not to bust your bubble, that's Lehigh's job but a 1-8 losing in the NIT is not the same as 2-15 in the NCAA.  I am not saying that as a UK fan or Duke hater but a single digit ranked school dropping to a 15 seed.  Also, I can't find anything but I think the NIT 1-8 upset has been done (I think that if it were the first time that would be in the leads of the stories.  I can only find unofficially that last night was the fourth time.  Duke's lost was the sixth time a 2 dropped to a 15.

But I think the 69th best team losing to the 101st best team is less of an upset than the 5th best team losing to the 60th best team.

/Not to makes excuses but the only UK player I've seen with fire and talent is out. (Noel) he is good and he has drive.
// Hey. Cauley-Stein nine points is NOT enought when you're five inches taller than the next person on the court.  Way to drop out of the lottery

You can never second-guess the idiocy of an NBA general manager with a lottery pick (see: Rivers, Austin), but he's a late first round pick at this point IMO.  He's tall and can defend, but that's about it.

You're right.  A fairly talented Duke team had a crap night and lost in the first round of the dance.  An allegedly talented UK team played like ass all year and continued that in the Not Invited Tournament.

Agreed.  If you can play at that level out of high school, you should be able to.  I'd miss having players of Kyrie Irving's ability playing for Duke, but when you're one serious injury away from having to call it a career, go make some cash, young man.

I'll give you a fairly talented Duke team had a bad night.  And I'll give a allegedly talented UK team had a bad year and didn't play like they even cared last night.  The UK players that were supposed to step in and fill the void never even laced up their shoes this year.

I don't understand it, they had the raw ability to get to the NCAA tourney on talent alone in a weak SEC. The only player on the team who seemed to care and was good enough to make a difference was injured the season went sideways.  The players didn't care (the freshman one and doners - expect Noel) and seemed to think, "I'm only here a year and it doesn't matter, we're good enough to get to the Sweet 16 on talent alone no need to be a team. Cal will get me to a lottery pick and I'm out."

The MO seems to be come to Lexington for a year, Cal will get you a first round pick and deep in tourney and go get paid.  That only works if they work for that year and they didn't work this year.

That's how Cal sells the program.  Some years (i.e. 2012) will work out great.  Some years he'll wind up with a bunch of talented but raw players that don't gel and play like they are 18.  Enough of those years and the one-and-dones may decide they can shine just as well elsewhere.

When was the last time a Calipari 5-star player has actually developed?  Heck, most any of them?  He signs up guys pretty much guaranteed to be lottery picks and at the end of the year they are...  lottery picks.  They don't get any better, they just leave.

It's because the team was laden with good veterans.  The NBA lockout stopped some of them from entering the draft the year before.  It was a perfect circumstance, giving him a complete team with players with experience despite his best efforts.

I'd say that applied for Poythress & Wiltjer.
Poythress seemed to have freshman jitters. He could only perform big in the meaningless games, but his basketball IQ was about the same as his PPG.

Wiltjer pissed me off all season. He refused to even guard sometimes. Got caught jogging back down the court, and never worked for a better shot. Bobby Knight spent the whole game he commentated saying  'just use a shot fake to get your defender in the air.' Basic basketball skills and he stood around wondering why there wasn't a double-team on Anthony Davis.
