Seriously, there is so much to work with and we get this?

1.  Their home court is being used by the NCAA tournament. And they're home early enough to catch some games.
2.  Drew
3.  They're out before Duke even plays a game
4.  Kentucky Blue (Blew) - Bluegrass State - Blue (As in sad)  There is something there, it's just too early for me to get it.
5.  "If you're not first, you're last" and Kentucky made their choice.

/Dammit I need coffee

The SEC was disappointed that Kentucky didn't get in? I doubt it. I think they're more disappointed with the seeding that their few teams did get (and to be fair, it was crap). No one thought Kentucky deserved to get in, but thought they would on name.

The funny part was, after they beat Florida, all the talking heads said they were in regardless of what else happened.  Then they lost to Vandy in the tournament (at Vandy) and they were suddenly out.  Best thing for everyone really.  They were a lazy team even before Noel got hurt, and they weren't going to do anything in the tournament.  As a bonus, we didn't have to listen to everyone crying that UK got into the tournament just because they are UK.

Even if my school flames out in the 1st round of the dance, we aint UK.

IIRC, Calipari had been complaining about "un-coachable" players on the team.  I'm not sure of course, but I would imagine their loss directly resulted from players who didn't care to be in the NIT.

I'm trying to find the specific article I saw, I'll keep searching.  In the meantime I found this dandy quote from yesterday:
Missing the tournament this year is very likely nothing more than a required karmic recharge before we win our ninth national championship next year, and I am comfortable in my conviction that will in fact happen a mere 12 months and change from now.

HOLD THE PHONE, found this Calipari quote:
One of the "things that hurt us was the impression the league's down," Kentucky coach John Calipari said. "Everyone seems to say it. That's why I tell the coaches we've got to brag about each other. We've got to set that straight."

Ok, this one says a lot of what I read yesterday

He's right, and I bet after all the jobbers midmajor schools get chalked out of the tourney the NCAA will give out fewer participation ribbon spots in next year's tournament.
Really, Boise State? Is that how the NCAA makes up for the football snubs?

fta I linked:  "What happens with mid-major teams is they schedule aggressively because they know the best-case scenario to get into the NCAA tournament is you've got to go play teams," Martin said. "So maybe we need to schedule like mid-major teams."

You can blast mid majors for not having an impact in the big dance, but they earn their spot at least.  SEC went a combined 15-33 against nonconference opponents.

They don't get snubbed, they play shiat teams most of the year, people mock teams for playing cupcakes yet Boise has the lowest SOS year in and year out when they get ranked in the top 10.

Let it go, CFB is not the same as getting a good CBB team together.

I love using this line for Lamar. "Poor Lamar is out there trying to play five guys by himself!"

Two more thoughts:

1. I'm glad the Wildcats' season is over. This has been a difficult year to watch, for a variety of reasons, and I'm mainly just thankful it's done.

2. For all the tired, predictible trolls going with the "When the NCAA eventually busts Cal" line, don't you think that's a little less effective when you're talking about a team that just lost in the first round of the NIT? I mean, typically, if a coach cheats to gain a competitive advantage... there's a little more advantage than that.

This.  Funny part is, most of the kids on the team who think they're gonna be lottery picks because their friends (real and/or yes-friends) told them so don't realize how much a season like this hurts them in the long run.

\though to be honest, I really can't for the life of me understand the utter disdain farkers have had for them lately

No, this is a different team. But I guess if we're talking in the past I should congratulate Kentucky on their second NIT appearance in the past five years.

God, you're right. Kentucky's program is terrible. Just awful, and trending downward.

Who's the last school to beat Louisville in the NCAA Tournament, by the way?

And, if a child was born the day Louisville last won an NCAA championship, do you realize that said child has been of the legal drinking age for almost 7 years?

I think duke lost as a first seed in just the last few years.  I am on my ipad so my google cut paste skills are not as strong. Maybe some other darker can confirm/refute

#1 seeds have lost on a regular basis. 2008(?) was the only time that 4 1-seeds went to the Final Four.

No #1 seed has ever lost to a 16-seed in the opening game, which is what's being referenced here.

Hey, just because someone's darker, doesn't mean they necessarily know more about basketball.

I looked up Duke basketball's page on Wikipedia, and it looks like the only time they got knocked out in the first round in a year they were a high seed was last year -- but they were a 2-seed then.
