I saw this on Snopes last night and thought for sure it'd be fake.

I was so wrong.

Funny how quickly the left ONLY blame the "others" and not their own. Bill Clinton? Al Gore? just a sample of the powerful leaders that SWEAR TO GOD and have NO DOUBT of Sadams WMD's ... but hey ... can't blame anyone else but b-b-b-b-BUSH

More importantly, it doesn't matter anymore. You have to go all the way back to the cold war to see when and where our policy in the middle east started going wrong, and none of the laying of blame is going to fix it now.
I like Obama, and voted for him - but I do not deceive myself into thinking that he has brought us anything but a slightly more moderate version of the same old broken policy.
At some point soon, we are going to have to choose between being a healthy, prosperous sovereign nation, and being cop and nanny to an ungrateful and undeserving world - and until we face, and make that choice, nothing is really going to change.

The only problem is, the neither of those scenarios are likely to hold as China basically barrels over North America and the "old ways" due to, frankly, the last 20 years of "free trade" and our own richest elites selling the rest of us down the river, pouring money into China and other developing nations.

Do you think the United States will be able to enforce ANYTHING internationally in 20 years? Maybe against the third-world shiatholes they currently do, but forget about "enforcing" anything as "cop" anywhere else. The USA is about to get a shiatkicking due to the extreme poor fiscal and social policy enacted over the past 20 years (primarily by GOP actors, maybe 70% of it, but certainly not all of it).

If you wanted a stronger nation of stronger people, you should have turned to democratic socialism or social democracy and actually built public infrastructure and retained your own wealth instead of shipping it all away for profits for the ...

Not so. Carry on.

We'll never know what Cheney's Intel Unit was telling those guys behind the scenes. I distinctly remember one congressman saying Cheney's people told him Saddam had drones that could reach the east coast with nerve gas. Total BS, but scary. They wanted war, they got it, and they killed anybody who got in their way.

I've looked for that article since and it's pretty much gone down the memory hole like so much other stuff.

Still, they should have know they were liars. I could tell and I'm nobody.

Before we get too carried away here,  please remember that there WERE nerve agents in Iraq, which was the whole issue behind the whole U.N. inspection teams finding the storage areas unsealed after they secured them.  Furthermore, the military has been steadily disposing those stockpiles since the war began.

That's true.  Bush did know Iraq had chemical weapons because his dad had the receipts.

Not everybody was "fooled" by Bush/Cheney. I wasn't, not that anybody gives a shiat.

I'll give this guy a pass because he was probably 20-something in 2001 and thus too dumb to know what he was signing up for.

War is a profit center.

As for Obama, well, at least Bin Laden is dead. I guess that's worth billions of dollars. Maybe.

Good.

I want him to live for at least another 35 years or so, so that he can watch as his legacy gets printed in history books.

/though chances are he doesn't read any newspapers or watch any TV, specifically so that he can avoid watching his reputation be (rightfully) tarnished before his very eyes
//a self-imposed life sentence of house arrest is too good for him, but that's the best we can get since the only way he'll be sent to The Hague is if he steps foot in another country and he hardly even leaves his house
///which is why I want him to live long enough to see his hundredth birthday, because nearly every news outlet in the world will have some commentary on 6 July 2046 on the centennial of the guy who destroyed America and there's no way he'd be able to avoid the attention except by being on his deathbed in a hospice or on death row in the Netherlands

Dec 15, 10:17 PM
Senators were told Iraqi weapons could hit U.S.
Nelson said claim made during classified briefing
By John McCarthy
FLORIDA TODAY
U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson said Monday the Bush administration last year told him and other senators that Iraq not only had weapons of mass destruction, but they had the means to deliver them to East Coast cities.
Nelson, D-Tallahassee, said about 75 senators got that news during a classified briefing before last October's congressional vote authorizing the use of force to remove Saddam Hussein from power. Nelson voted in favor of using military force.
Nelson said he couldn't reveal who in the administration gave the briefing.
The White House directed questions about the matter to the Department of Defense. Defense officials had no comment on Nelson's claim.
Nelson said the senators were told Iraq had both biological and chemical weapons, notably anthrax, and it could deliver them to cities along the Eastern seaboard via unmanned aerial vehicles, commonly known as drones.
"They have not found anything that resembles an UAV that has that capability," Nelson said.
Nelson delivered the news during a half-hour conference call with reporters Monday afternoon. The senator, who is on a seven-nation trade mission to South America, was calling from an airport in Santiago, Chile.
"That's news," said John Pike, director of GlobalSecurity.org, a Washington, D.C.-area military and intelligence think tank. "I had not heard that that was the assessment of the intelligence community. I had not heard that the Congress had been briefed on this."
Since the late 1990s, there have been several reports that Iraq was converting a fleet of Czechoslovakian jet fighters into UAVs, as well as testing smaller drones. And in a speech in Cincinnati last October, Bush mentioned the vehicles. "We're concerned that Iraq is exploring ways of using these UAVs for missions targeting the United States," the president said.
Nelson, though, said the administration told senators Iraq had gone beyond exploring and developed the means of hitting the U.S. with weapons of mass destruction.
Nelson wouldn't say what the original source of the intelligence was, but said it contradicted other intelligence reports senators had received. He said he wants to find out why there was so much disagreement about the weapons. "If that is an intelligence failure . . . we better find that out so we don't have an intelligence failure in the future."
Pike said any UAVs Iraq might have had would have had a range of only several hundred kilometers, enough to hit targets in the Middle East but not the United States. To hit targets on the East Coast, such drones would have to be launched from a ship in Atlantic. He said it wasn't out of the question for Iraq to have secretly acquired a tramp steamer from which such vehicles could have been launched.
"The notion that someone could launch a missile from a ship off our shores has been on Rummy's mind for years," Pike said, referring to Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.
Sen. Bob Graham, who voted against using military force in Iraq, didn't return phone calls concerning the briefing. Spokespersons for Reps. Dave Weldon and Tom Feeney said neither congressman could say if they had received similar briefings since they don't comment on classified information.

He'd already tried that in Kuwait. Remember how that turned out for him? He was contained in his box. His army was blown up. There was no more Soviet Union to sell him all the weapons he could buy as their Cold War Proxy. Between that and the No Fly operations, he wasn't going anywhere.

The place would have dissolved into chaos after he died. The lunatic sons would have been at each others' throats trying to be the new king. But again, no our problem.

Aren't we all glad that not all Service members are cowards, like this person? Why do we only hear about the whiny, 'look at me' ones.

I'll praise no man, or woman for their actions in conflict, but I will thank them for their service, because it keeps us free. I served, it was my pleasure, and my duty. You don't see me crying over it.

I'll not vote for any former service person because of their military record alone. Look at McCain.

I would still prefer that we just use nuclear weapons upon our enemies, we make them small enough, and clean enough to do the job. It worked against the extremists in Japan, it'll work against the rest.

As for you filthy cowards that hide behind those that do the necessary work, you could at least donate you time, energy, and money to helping the country that enables your cowardice.

Seriously, just keep your mouths shut, because you will never be willing to lead.

Those two got a complete pass. Criticism is not prosecution. Obama is going to get a pass too. There is something about the collective American psyche that would rather see our homegrown war criminals go free than admit to ourselves that Americans are capable of committing war crimes.

I encourage troops to degrade the enemy, to punish them, to kill them with out mercy, because war should be hell.

We nod, take the gun, run into the bar, and shoot the place up.  Now 10 years later I'm complaining about the fact that seeing the dead bodies, and witnessing my buddy get shot traumatized me for life, plus I got shot when one of the bar patrons fired back.

Have sympathy for me.

If you let someone talk you into killing your fellow man, you deserve every ounce of misery you experience as a result.

So.... folks who volunteered for WWII deserve all the misery *they* get, right?

The worst attack on American soil happened.  Plenty of people joined the military for various reasons, definitely with some economic push, but certainly to fight the person responsible for the attack.  To make sure that didn't happen again.  Instead, they got BS reasoning for going to war with an entirely unrelated country from their Commander in Chief.

You know what... don't take it from me.  Go ahead to the American Legion and see if you can find a still alive WWII vet to tell that to.  If you get out alive, congrats.

Yeah, sorry, but you can't compare WWII to other wars.  America was directly attacked by a military juggernaut that was invading countries left and right.  There was an obvious and undeniable threat not only to America, but to the entire free world.  WWI works fine in your analogy though, because it was also a bullshiat war.  So yes, I would look a complaining WWI vet in the eye and tell him 'boo farking hoo, that's what you get for shooting strangers just because someone told you to

so con men aren't responsible for a little old lady getting cheated out of money right? it's her own fault?

Frat douchebags who slip a roophie in a drink and give it to a girl then rape her isn't responsible for that right? It's her fault for letting frat-jock-strap poor her a drink?

Your logic is astounding... Blame the victim

Yeah, your analogy doesn't work either.  Your analogy would work if the con men convinced the old lady to go blow another old lady's head off and then withheld the money they promised to pay her.   Because the 'victim' in the real life scenario we're talking about has made victims of others, simply because someone told him to.  He yielded his morals to another man's will, and he paid the price.

Of course not. Republican or Democrat, the goal of every politician is power and other people are merely tools to be used to gain or keep power.

Until the average Joe realizes that no matter who you vote for, the government always wins then you'll always end up getting the sort end of the stick.

Here you are sir,

Bureaucracy! It's entrenched and survives regime change.

Even cockroaches tip their proverbial hats in respect to something that survives despite being so reviled and so many people would like to see dead.

bob_ross: So don't join the armed forces.

Dur.

Not until you've read "War is a Racket" by Smedley Butler.  At least be able to make an informed decision.

Snowflake Tubbybottom: Fart_Machine: Watching_Epoxy_Cure: Is this guy aware the war would not have been possible without the rather enthusiastic support of most of the Democrats in Congress?

94% of the GOP supported it compared to 40% of the Democrats.

And a higher percentage of the GOP voted for civil rights than did the Dems so what was your point exactly?

I'm sure that meant something in your mind but it's irrelevant to the conversation.

Without the democrat votes in the Senate it wouldn't have happened at all, stop trying to place all responsibility to only those you disagree with.

I see you don't understand what the word "most" means.  If you're going to White Knight at least understand the argument before you make another stupid statement.

Some of you are truly horrible people.

No, not you, muck, I like you even though you goof off like mad.

Corn_Fed: It was a totally useless war from start to finish.

Stop giving the dignity of the word "war". We were not attacked by Iraq.

We INVADED Iraq. Plain and simple. We were not defending our territories.

Stop calling "The Iraq War" and start calling it "The Invasion of Iraq"

You make a good point.  And opponents of the Iraq invasion lost when they lost the battle of words.  Allowing it to be called a "war" was the end all.
