It's also only 13 Presidents long.  Why they couldn't have said movie and TV and put Jed Bartlet on there, I don't know.  They're half way there with Andrew Shepherd.

The list sucks, he doesn't really count as a "Movie" president.

Who is Jeff Bridges as President Evans from The Contender, Alex?

/Also likes Greenwoods performance in 13 Days.

Which one though?  Former Acting President Allstate Insurance Spokesperson (obscure?) or his little brother?

Greenwood played JFK, who is a real person, therefore wouldn't qualify for this list.  But I still agree with you.

Morgan Freeman as President Tom Beck in Deep Impact (1998)

That's the one I was looking for. Hell, let's just make Morgan Freeman president. He could have weekly "fireside chats" broadcast on TV and have all of America (except the super duper racist) eating out of his hand.

/saw that in the theater

Right, which is why he gets the slashie treatment here....but that movie was terrific even though you know how it ends. He WAS the president.

"My Fellow Americans" was a three-fer.

Why President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho isn't every entry on the list, but for different reasons, I'll never know.

Fark yes! The first two that came to mind are two of my favorite movies, and both were listed first and second!

/I don't care what you say, Independence Day was a great movie.
//So was The Fifth Element. One of my absolute favorites.

Blair Underwood as the president in "The Event" was amazing. Much better presence and charisma than Palmer. Hope they could recycle his character in a different show or movie.

And I agree about Bruce Greenwood playing JFK. He was great. Would watch that movie again just for his part.

You're kidding.  Deep Impact was horribad, and was also named like a porno but without any full frontal nudity.  The only saving grace was Teo Leoni, and may I remind you again, she did not get nekkid.  Tits was the only thing that movie could have had to put it over Bruce Willis nuking an asteroid.

Oh HUSH, Deep Impact was a better movie than Armageddon, at least there are logic in Deep Impact. I would vote for President Morgan Freeman, the most presidential fictional president.

Actually, most movies that don't use a caricature of a (then) sitting President -- and even many that do -- tend to portray the President as relatively wise, even in comedies.  President Camacho in Idiocracy was no genius but was often the smartest person in the room whenever Not Sure wasn't there, and the President in Dr. Strangelove was the only sane guy in the room.  I'm sure I've seen at least one movie where the President is an idiot, but there aren't that many of them.  It could be that Hollywood is sqeuamish about portraying the President as an idiot, but the position also makes for a convenient "straight man" in comedy.

I know he's not techinically a movie president, and I honestly don't care:  President Bartlett absolutely needs to be on this list.  Not the top, necessarily, because as I said, there was no movie.  That's no excuse for leaving him out altogether, though.

2013-03-20 09:04:32 AM
I did not know that Morgan Freeman had been in fifteen movies as the President.

2013-03-20 09:25:03 AM
James Rebhorn (the secretary of defense weasel in Independence Day) doesn't get enough credit for playing evil white guys with his level of sill, does he?  Same goes for Ronnie Cox.

2013-03-20 09:34:45 AM
There is a lot of fail at their job on that list subby.

I was flipping channels and Dave was on so I watched it. I remember feeling warm and fuzzy about it in the early nineties, and certainly Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver are sweet together, but the entire plot is idiotic. I mean, sure, it's Hollywood fantasy, it's meant to be far-fetched, but I just didn't appreciate how far-fetched at the time, and I don't just mean a look-alike being subbed in for the President. Knowing how budgets and economies go nowadays, the pivotal budget scene in Dave looks pants-on-head stupid.

That was Drunken Cropduster/real-life loonie-tunes Randy Quaid, not President Lone Star.

// also, Adam Baldwin as The Guy That Shoots at the Alien Through Glass - a breakout performance for him
// technical shout-out for Nigel Hawthorne's Raymond Cocteau in Demolition Man (not a president, but leader/father figure of the future)

Why was this not top of the list? Morgan Freeman as President Tom Beck in Deep Impact If he ran I would vote for him.
