Ken Casey noticed this and ran right over to the guy, smashed him in the face, took off his bass and hit him with that and then jumped on him and all out chaos ensued. We could only assume from our vantage point that said nazi got his ass kicked. About 30 seconds later Ken emerged from the pileup with his shirt torn and made his way back to the front of the stage. He strapped on his bass and said into the microphone "Nazis are NOT farkING WELCOME at a Dropkick Murphys show."

I have to admit that after a Flogging Molly show where skinheads ruled the pit and the men's room (for some strange reason), I had kind of written off Irish punk/hardcore's fan base as largely hyper aggressive white males shouting about "working class pride" as a code word for "white pride". It's actually really nice to see that at least one band is going to stand up against that stereotype.

Yes, but Skinhead on the MBTA, the song they were playing in the seconds before, is a song about a Nazi.


The skinheads started around the 50s and 60s, it wasn't until the 70s that the nazis co-opted the skinhead look. The "skin" head came about because of the poor working conditions in the factories of the time. Many of the workers had to shave their heads due to lice epidemics.  West Indian, specifically Jamaican, music plays a large influential role in the skinhead culture. Groups and singers such as Desmond Dekker,  Laurel Aitken etc....
