(True Story:  When I was little my Mom told me I had an older brother, Fred, who was such a disobedient child they left in the Smoky Mountains with the bears.  She even had her sisters repeat the story when I asked.  When we went on vacation to the park, I thought they were going to leave me. )

My true story: As my kids were growing up, I would do everything possible to not react when being tickled. I then "confessed" that I had been born without "The Tickle Gene". I convinced them that it was impossible for me to feel tickles. I started revealing this feigned disability when my son was about five years old. I was able to keep them believing until he turned fourteen. Saved me a lot of discomfort. Of course, I finally had to fess up. My son has been paying back, since then. Big time.

I empathize with you eye. Fundamentalism is dangerous, misguided and full of hypocrisy. I know, like you, that freedom exists outside the physical church and the flawed leaders who believe that they are infallible and unaccountable for their actions. Your shop is not funny, but true to the essence of this contest. Well done.

True but parents (and older brothers) had way too much fun selling this particular element.

My parents had a terrible time dealing with death and explaining it to us kids. I remember at age eight when my pet turtle died. My dad said "He's probably hibernating. We'll bury him to let him sleep through the winter then dig him up in the spring." Of course, we never dug him up, nor did I ask. Friends owned a farm and when my parents decided to get rid of our cat, they took the cat to the farm and dropped him off, again not getting the concept of what "farm" was supposed to mean here. I'm told the cat took one look at the livestock, took off for some nearby woods, and was never heard from again.

This is one of the reasons I have backyard chickens. They only live a few years and teach my kids about, death, where food comes from, reproduction, and responsible pet/animal ownership. Also provide eggs, fertilizer, pest control.

"Mom, where do babies come from?"
"Why from Sears, Roebuck, son."
"You don't expect me to believe that do you?"
"Doesn't everything else in the house come from Sears?"

Sure thing, I had an extra month so why not, the handle TrollingForColumbine sounds like a Fark the status quo mentality, that's always fun IMO.

When I was a kid we had a dog that bit a neighbor, so one day it was gone. My dad said he took it to a farm where it was very happy. Years later, I figured out what that meant. Another 15 years or so after that, he overheard me telling the story to a friend, and he said "No! I really did take him to a farm! I used to go visit him, and he absolutely loved it there." Then he showed me pictures.

I am 31 years old and it just dawned on me. My parents told me the same thing with stories about my beloved dog chasing  birds and hunting, being sooo happy on a farm.

I believed it and forgot about it until now.  I called my mom and she said she doesn't remember.

/sad
/really miss my dog
