The Dixie Chicks got grief because the assholes knew who they were.  They had their radios preset to stations that might play the Dixie Chicks' music.  They go to concerts and events the Dixie Chicks might play or be at.  In short, they were frequently reminded the Dixie Chicks existed and thus that they disagreed.  And they sure weren't about to change their own habits, so they had to call for boycotts.

But Rodman's more like Sean Penn.  The assholes have no problem ignoring it, because they don't see/hear/think about anything they are, or have been, involved with.

For another example of Dixie Chicks' style treatment: look at the anger they fired off at Eastwood over the "halftime in America" commercial.  Again: just because Eastwood is part of *their* self-identified culture.  And he didn't even really stake out a personal political *position*.  He just took a job repeating jingoistic pablum that could be *interpreted* (with some stretching) as partisan politics.
