Well if you stop putting people in jail for smoking pot, the total number of criminals in the system would go down, right?

Maybe they'd finally just chill the hell out. Also, might get a few folks to switch to weed from bath salts and lower the number of face-eatings.

That would be nice, but it doesn't seem likely.  There aren't exactly a lot of progressive thinkers down here.

Yeah but everyone is getting high, next thing you know they'll be going to the store for snacks, like skittles.  And it being Floriduh, if it gets below 75 they start breaking out the hoodies...

the dumbest farking law out there.

ANYONE who wants to can find it easily. It's in every town, in every state and readily available. It's millions and millions of potential tax dollars wasted, millions of lives ruined by the cops/courts/jails all for a drug with no lethal dosage.

/legalize it.
//full legalization, none of this babysteps shiat

Thats bad for business in a privatized prison system.

But if we legalize cannabis then rich old white men might have to admit they lied.

2013-03-19 10:04:42 AM
As long as the governor and both houses of the legislature are (R) this won't happen. I think many of them would support it or be neutral to the notion of medical marijuana in private but they have to pander to the war on drugs, devil weed types who are the vocal ones on this issue.

lewismarktwo: But if we legalize cannabis then rich old white men might have to admit they lied.

They didn't admit it over the war in Iraq, the financial meltdown and subsequent bailout, or the saber-rattling over Iran, or the "Patriot Act", or innumerable other lies . . .

2013-03-19 10:20:02 AM
It's never gonna happen. Lawyers make too much money defending cases, fines, fees, and seizures keep too many municipalities afloat. The government (or if you prefer, gubmint) finds it convenient to make people criminals. Add in privatized prisons and the industries tied in with that and keeping pot illegal is a very lucrative process.

Good for those who want to spend the states money on other things, like social services for the elderly and crime prevention.

Money is tight, choices have to be made.

the sad thing is that a lot of the old people who will be against this would benefit from medical marijuana to replace the expensive pain meds that they already take.

Funny, all the potheads I know have great jobs. I've known plenty of spouse abusing unemployed alcoholics though.

Good weed cost dough, yo.

Not really.
The face eaters are going to be disappointed at the minor

effect of MJ.
Not going to scratch the itch for a dissociative experience.

The face-eatin' will continue until morale improves.-

Sooner or later, most elderly folks are going to want medical marijuana to kill the pain of dying, and at some point, they'll wake up and smell the smoke.  They all know someone who died suffering terribly.

2013-03-19 11:35:33 AM
marijuana should be 100% legal for anyone's consumption w/o any taxes or tyrannical oversight!

2013-03-19 11:39:02 AM
It would be good for Florida, because they would have more room in the jails for those caught driving under suspension, people who write bad checks, identity thieves, tweekers and shop lifters.

And those driving without insurance.

Seriously, fark those people

It's going to happen eventually.  The majority of the public supports legalization...and not just for medical marijuana.  It will make the states money, not cost them money...money they can use to fight harder drugs like heroin, meth, and cocaine (full disclosure:  I support the legalization of all drugs, but want to start with marijuana).

You're not interested in all the symptoms marijuana can alleviate naturally, as an alternative to drug company offerings. Many pharmaceuticals have terrible side-effects too. Its just a matter of time until this comes to pass.

There are plenty of productive members of society who like to partake. Potheads are to medical and recreational marijuana users as Alcoholics are to social drinkers. Vastly smaller subset.

Funny that the 2 times I've seen him in public, both times it was in a bar.

I was drinking too.

Maybe we can have a vote during the summer months, when most of them are back in Ohio and Michigan?

Why not subby?  Nothing else seems to work.

2013-03-19 05:32:39 PM
Ooooh this is a power-play by the right. They know damn well Florida can't handle this responsibility and they will use it as evidence to continue the drug war across the nation.
