You know, I never thought of her as chubby, just not willowy.

There's nothing wrong with chubby. Whatever makes your happy stick and her hoo ha happy, and doesn't hurt anyone, is better than ok in my book.

Yes She does.

In the Grim Darkness of the Future, There Are Only Ponies.

Part of the reason it's still going is that whenever anything gets a critical mass of creatives cranking out fan-made content, it can not only propagate itself between fanbases, it can do so even if the show is on hiatus between seasons. As for why this property and not something like Adventure Time (of which I'm also a casual fan), I have no idea. Faust had a head start on a viral fanbase with her body of prior work, but it wasn't that big a head start.

Some 'Splainin' To Do: therecksays: I'm pretty certain I've heard Tara Strong call the girls something like unipals or something like that different from the term "Bronie"

Pegasister is the most commonly distinct term used for them, but most adult female fans are comfortable with just calling themselves bronies, too. There's no reason to take the "bro" part of the neologism too literally.

Thanks. I knew it was something but forgot what it was.

"Equestria, you gotta get the muffins first. First you get the muffins, then you get the friendship, then, then you become an alicorn."

On the fan content front, the year's still shaping up for con season.

First up, with a scheduled release date of March 30, 2013, Double Rainboom, the first entirely fan-made episode, and he's got Hasbro's written permission, so there shouldn't be any last-minute glitches.

(Speaking of last-minute glitches, and as a followup to the Fighting is Magic story, the mane6dev team behind FiM has accepted Lauren Faust's offer to do character design. The Herd won't get the MLP-themed fighting game originally envisioned, but we'll all get a good indie 2D fighter out of it. For those not of the Herd, that might even be 20% cooler.)

Slated for later this year: Ponies, The Anthology, Vol. III (no set release date, but if you remember Volume I and Volume II, you'll want to keep your eyes open and a six-pack of cider at the ready.)

Welfare Peanut Butter: FlashHarry: point of order: aren't bronies male by definition?

/finds the whole thing rather silly
//lives in omaha
///contrary to popular belief, there is a lot to do here. true, most of it involves drinking, but still...

According to my Brony friend, the actual origin of the word comes from the fact that the male fandom "originated" on 4chan's /b/. /b/ + pony = brony. Everyone else just assumed it was a portmanteau of "bro" and "pony", so that's what it evolved into.

I.....I'm sort of ashamed that I know this.

Your friend, and by extension you, are incorrect.

The first mention of the show started out on /co/ (4chan's comic and cartoons board) when it was mentioned in an article called something like "The End of Creator Driven Cartoons". Somebody uploaded the first two episodes to YouTube when they came out, and well, it took off from there.

Ponies were pretty much exclusive to /co/ for those first couple of months, in which the term "Brony" was coined, in a conversation that went something like "Thanks PonyBro" "More like Brony!" (I am not entirely sure, but I think it took place on /pco/ which isn't actually 4chan but used by the /co/ board).

In late December (at the latest) somebody thought it would be funny to introduce Ponies to /b/... which is both when the show started to spread through the Internet and the Great shiatstorm of our time happened. Mostly because of /b/tards Ponies overwhelmed plenty of other 4chan boards, which lead to a rule stating that ponies could only be on /co/ and only on one thread at a time.

This lead to the creation of Pony-Chan and several other sites. The fandom really took off after the first season ended, and well here we are now.

That the history as I've experienced it anyways, having watched the show since early November 2010 (show started in Oct '10).

I do have screen shots of most of these events but not on my iPod which I am posting from.

And now you know.

I was under the impression that people of /co/ complained about ponies, leading moderators to start banning their threads which led to them spilling over into /b/ instead. I'm probably wrong though.

Anyway. It is like the history of a bowel movement.

Eh, I preferred mine, as it highlights how the haters really are walking straight into the Pony mythos by creating controversy and hate.

Don't mind if I do! In honor of Berry Punch, Equestria's fan-official town drunk, I close out the night with:

South Park, "Cider":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mq2rbGkHIAM

(For those wondering WTF is going on at this point, we've segued to Season 2, Episode 15, "The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000" established non-fermented cider as the pony equivalent of beer. The episode is a nod to the story of John Henry, except it's been re-imagined in the form of the battle between craft beer vs. macrobrew, featuring musical elements from "The Music Man", and the Simpsons' "Marge vs. the Monorail" episode, and, of course, copious quantities of cider.)

Barenaked Ladies, "Alcohol":
