Because destroying Mission Impossible wasn't enough?  What the fark does Tom Cruise have against 60s spy tv?

Open channel 'D'.... for disaster.

Next, Tom Cruise as Barnaby Jones. A Quinn Martin Production.

Hooray for more hollywood boring claptrap.

Shave his head and he could be Kojak next.

With Tom Cruise as Andy Griffith, and Andy Dick as Barney Fife!

Thank you, Captain Irrelevant and your sidekick, Apathy Boy!

People in their late 30's will remember that show, not exactly a demographic that is famous for making opening weekends. Guy Ritchie is a snappy director, and Tom Cruise still gets work, somehow, no one likes him, no one wants to see a movie because of him, so uh meh.

Who owned the rights to Man from U.N.C.L.E.? Who bought it?

Oh, no.... my dad is going to be soo upset. He loved (well, still loves) that show. He would watch that show religiously back when it first ran. He bought many of the tie-in novels.  He even collected enough of the U.N.C.L.E trading cards to make the big picture they had on the back.  To this very day, he still has them all (glued to a posterboard in big picture form and then framed). He is going to be absolutely crushed that they are doing to this what they did to Mission Impossible (he felt the Mission Impossible movie-he only saw the first one-was an absolute betrayal to the television series.  I very much hope that this film gets scrapped.   Or at least they get a decent script and some  decent actors (in other words, not Tom Cruise).

Maybe they should re-do the Man From A.U.N.T.I.E. instead...

To prove that they aren't gay, of course.

MI4 and Knight and Day were both pretty bad.
I'd rather see him do a Jerry Lewis biopic.

All I want from Guy Ritchie is The Real Rock n Rolla.

I like a couple of the MI films, but they aren't Mission Impossible. The Ocean's films are closer to MI.

"My name is Napoleon Solo. I'm Enforcement agent in Section 2 here. That's Operations and Enforcement."

"I am Illya Kuryakin. I am also an Enforcement agent. Like my friend Napoleon, I go and I do whatever I am told to by our chief."

"Hmm? Oh, yes. Alexander Waverly. Number 1 in Section 1. In charge of this, our New York headquarters. It's from here that I send these young men on their various missions."

\Just one more reason to hate Tom Cruise.
\\Shakes tiny fist in despair.

I like Guy Ritchie's movies. The opening to "RocknRolla" is one of the coolest in any movie.

Say what you will about Tom Cruise, the last two Mission Impossible movies were great.

I am female and not old enough but other than that I am your dad.  I wasn't born yet for the first run, but I caught the reruns. That show ROCKED, I had the books, the cards, and fark off, Cruise!! You will not ruin my childhood fantasy spy world.

Also, Ducky from NCIS was the original Napolean Solo, and he will occasionally drop Man From UNCLE references into the show, which is fun. In one episode, they drew up a composite sketch that looked nothing like their suspect but was Illya Kuriakin.

KurYakin. Dammit.

In this case UNCLE stands for Uncloseted Nancyboy Cruise Leaps Effeminately.

As long as Cruise gets killed during the opening credits I'm OK with this.

I'm in my late 30s and I don't remember the show. I know OF it, though.

My cousin had both of the toy pistols mounted on a wall.  Looked just like the tv versions.  I bet they would be worth quite a bit of money now...

I still can't get over the miscasting of Tom the Dwarf Cruise as Jack Reacher. Reacher (in the books) is 6'5", 250lbs, with blond hair, blue eyes and of possible Nordic descent. Why didn't they just cast Jackie Chan in the role, it would have made about as much sense.

2013-03-19 02:33:25 PM
Do they really expect to make any money based on the U.N.C.L.E. name? Those that see it will see it because "Oooh, new spy action movie" or because they're Guy Ritchie fans. Just call it "Guy Ritchie Spy Movie" since we all know it will be nothing like the original except for character names.

2013-03-19 03:53:04 PM
I want Guy Ritchie to make a prequel to Snatch; mainly for Frankie Four Fingers.

2013-03-19 04:15:58 PM
I am waiting for Tom Cruise to remake "The Day The Clown Cried".

2013-03-19 04:41:43 PM
I'm in my mid-30s, not old enough to remember it originally, but I saw it a LOT in reruns (I think it was on TNT). I've even got a couple of the books.
I'll believe this when I see it. The project's been in development hell for at least a decade. I recall reading at one point that Tarantino wanted to do this a decade ago.
Also, David McCallum as Mr. Waverly OR NO DEAL!!!

2013-03-19 07:25:49 PM
I want The Real RocknRolla. Now.

Amen brother....

When I can ssquirrel away $100,  I buy the cap guns online.   One of very few fond childhood memories.  I hope Cruise doesn't dark this like Mission Impossible and War of the Worlds

What would an older Ilya Kuryakin look like?
