ArmednHammered: noitsnot: Gyrfalcon: Are those beanbag rounds cops use available to the general public?

I have seen them advertised - but I've never seen salt, and I can't really believe people are doing that much hand-loading.  Smacks of rural myth.

Love the fin-stabilized rubber rocket.  (Rubber rocket - heh heh)

Back in the day the rock salt was a hand load. You only had to get hit with that once to get the idea that what you were doing was pissing someone off and you didn't do that again. We need to bring those days back.

I got blasted with rock salt one night because I was cutting across a neighbors ranch after I had been told repeatedly not to. He had a low wall of about 3 feet with poles set with barbed wire. He waited until I had crossed over onto his property and lit up my butt and legs.
Damn that stuff burned.

The ironic thing is, if any one of those kids tripped and broke their ankles, the home owner would be liable for several hundreds of thousands of dollars of damages.

So.... There's that.  The legal system sucks.

It works even better in a cubicle environment...when everyone is quietly working.

umm, your kid scraped across something.

Yeah, this is fishy. Especially since she was supposedly shot while running away. I don't see support for "aggravated battery" here.

They will just nail him with discharging a firearm.

Simple discharge of a firearm isn't illegal in Florida.   It makes sense, otherwise you wouldn't be able to legally "stand your ground".

Is a BB gun considered a firearm? Or is that one of those 'it depends' type questions?

So the "lines on her BELLY" that she received while running AWAY, testimony would lead you to convict?  You are a completely useless human.  I bet you have already served on a jury as well.

And I bet you got your but kicked when you got home for pissing off the neighbor, I know I did. That's how we learned to respect other peoples property. Today kids destroy property with impunity because unless you get them on film in 3D, from 12 different angles, complete with Michael Bay lens flare, the police won't do squat and the little bastards know it.

The only regret I have with the upcoming warm weather...that frickin' jingle they broadcast from the loudspeaker drives me batshiat. I seriously consider tossing a grenade out the window when that farker rolls by.

In other news, I need to cut down on the caffeine.

The ones that used to drive through a former neighborhood all seemed to play the same damned tune, "Turkey In The Straw". It was made worse by the fact that most of the recordings were old & worn, so the tune sounded weird & out of sync.

I can hear it now, in all it's discordant, repetitive glory. I came to hate that tune over the course of one Summer.
More accurately, over the course of a week one Summer when I was recovering from an injury and had to hear it... Twice. Every. Stinking. Day.

And yet you managed not to go completely insane? Or did you?

If I remember correctly and I could be wrong I heard second hand that someone was charge with discharging a firearm for firing a BB gun in their back yard.

mizchief: Meh, better than getting hit with shotguns filled with rock salt.

Better for the person who fired it at least. You do that and get caught, you are looking at serious time. I always find it funny how some yokel types seem to think this is ok. We hear all about what a responsibility firearm ownership is and how responsible owners are careful, but these guys will go and shoot at a kid to "teach them a lesson". But it's totally ok, because it is loaded with something that is, usually, not lethal! ... unless they happened to stick in the wrong round, or there is a problem with the manufacture of it, or they are too close or something.

It really infuriates me as a gun owner because shiat like that leads to the perception of gun owners being morons who think guns are the solution to all problems. It also stands counter to all the safety lessons parents give kids. They sit there and tell them "Never point a gun at anything you aren't ready to destroy, especially a person," only for some dumb fark to do just that.

Also pretty stupid because if the person you shoot at is armed, they are 100% justified in shooting back and they will probably be doing it with lead.

Sure, as long as you can deal with the possibility of a chunk of salt penetrating the kid's spinal cord, a lung, the temporal bone or some other rather important bit. I hear prison isn't really that bad, as long as you aren't in for hurting a child.. oh, wait...

fjnorton: Old farmer Heberlee use to shoot salt rounds from a shotgun at us if we were caught in his orchards. Stuff hurt like hell.

When I was a kid my dad had a neighbor whose dog would get into our garbage on trash day every few months.  He'd try to chase it away, but it was a Rottie and fairly aggressive.  So he'd call the neighbor and bellow, "come get your G-D dog!" and the neighbor would bellow back, "It's not my dog!  My dog is sitting right here!"

This went on for years.  And every farking trash day, my dad would sit by the window and look out for that dog.  When the dog would show up, he'd call the neighbor and the neighbor would say, "It's not MY dog!"  Because we lived in the city limits (no shooting), he'd try to devise some way to chase the dog---brooms, shovels, a wrist rocket and a can of coke...all to no avail.  He was obsessed.

Finally one year Dad had enough and shot that beast in the a$$ with some rock salt.  It went yipping home, and the neighbor called.  "What in the hell did you do to my dog?"

"It's not your dog!", Dad shot back.

Ahhh, good times.  I miss my dad every day.

I too have a neighbor with trampoline and kids.  If they would use it during the day, it would be fine.  Instead, one halloween, the two girls started about 9pm and screamed their heads off (the I need help screams) for over two hours while bouncing on the trampoline.  Those parents are idiots.

Pour about a tablespoon of ammonia in the garbage bag before you tie it up and nothing will bother it.....at least in my experience.

When I was in the 6th grade, I was walking home from school one day when some Jr. high boys coming from a different direction started picking on me and pushing me around.  The old road they had to take was about one house over from where we lived.  After the 2nd day of their torment, I ran all the way home to make sure I got home before they did.  I got my Daisy pump action bb gun, climbed up in the huge sycamore tree and waited.

It wasn't long before they came walking down the road and I started letting them have it in the legs.  They didn't know where it was coming from and I got off about 3 or 4 shots before they figured out someone was shooting at them and took off.  This went on for about a week and they all decided to find another way to go home.

Revenge was good.... it was fun too.  I never shot another person with a bb gun in anger after that day.

Bah, kids are such wimps these days, probably because their parents are giving them names like Kaylee.  Anyway, when I was young we'd run around screaming and what-not but we were the ones shooting each other with BB guns.

"Ow!!  No fair, that was more than 3 pumps!"

Bullshiat. Children need to be taught discipline and their job is to learn and become useful members of society. You don't do that, you get the world in the state that it is in today.

Because it doesn't really happen.  These are all made up stories being based on some TV shows from way back when.  In reality, this would end in jail time for Jed Clampit 'n his shootin' iron (and somebody losing an eye).
