I had a little neighborhood gaggle of kids like that back when I worked the overnight shift. I would desperately be trying to sleep around sundown and those monsters would play outside my damned window, because apparently that was the most awesome spot they could find on the block. Never thought to shoot them with a BB gun but I did yell at them to get offa my damn yard a few times.

and then the ice cream truck would arrive...

Old farmer Heberlee use to shoot salt rounds from a shotgun at us if we were caught in his orchards. Stuff hurt like hell.

I buy a bag of 200 foam earplugs for $13 delivered, via eBay.  Lasts a couple years. Sleep through anything.

The only regret I have with the upcoming warm weather...that frickin' jingle they broadcast from the loudspeaker drives me batshiat. I seriously consider tossing a grenade out the window when that farker rolls by.

In other news, I need to cut down on the caffeine.

The ones that used to drive through a former neighborhood all seemed to play the same damned tune, "Turkey In The Straw". It was made worse by the fact that most of the recordings were old & worn, so the tune sounded weird & out of sync.

I can hear it now, in all it's discordant, repetitive glory. I came to hate that tune over the course of one Summer.
More accurately, over the course of a week one Summer when I was recovering from an injury and had to hear it... Twice. Every. Stinking. Day.

I had a friend who lived in low rent shiathousing downtown. He was often awake until 9 a.m. before he could sleep, then he'd sleep until 5p.m. One day a parade rolled past his window. All these happy children, smiling people and parade floats and there is this guy yelling at them from his third storey window, tossing garbage at them preparing to throw faeces too. His breakdowns were epic and hilarious. Another time I saw him swing a CRT by the cord and smash it into his keyboard. I was shocked how well attached that cord was. He then headbutted the thermostat and smashed it to pieces.

I too wear ear plugs evernight when I sleep. Mostly because I work an odd shift so I sleep from 5a.m. until noon and the apartment building can be loud.

I have seen them advertised - but I've never seen salt, and I can't really believe people are doing that much hand-loading.  Smacks of rural myth.

Also, we used shoot the crap out of each other with BB guns, so we would never have noticed old man McGruber doing it.

2013-03-18 11:45:22 PM
There are about 5 noisy bastards in my neighborhood that I, and every other neighbor, would like to pop with a BB gun if not for just one weekend of outdoor silence.

2013-03-18 11:49:45 PM
The solution is obvious. Arm the kids with BB guns too.

2013-03-18 11:54:09 PM
Does this apply to the neighbor dog that likes to bark somewhere around 12:30am, and then again around 4:45-5:10 or so? Cause I've about had it.

I have that problem with two neighbor dogs who squeak-bark all farking night.
Id like to get about a 4000 watt speaker that screamed out about 300 decibels at a frequency only a dog can hear. Then some software that could detect those dogs barking. Every time the dog barks the speaker barks back. Nobody would have to know cept me and the dogs who suddenly either quit barking or went deaf and insane.

Works best if you put the collar on the neighbor. When his dog starts barking you light him up!

Yep. The difference between a normal person and a sociopath is that all-important executive function, the bit that says, "sure, I'd like to shoot the noisy little bastards, but they're just playing and it's a trivial thing, really - it's not that big a deal." The asshat laughing in the back of the police car while the mother's berating him for shooting a young girl with a BB gun does not seem to have a useful executive function. So, I suspect that, later, he's probably going to get his ass kicked once he gets out of jail.

The one around here has started up again. It plays the first few bars of Music Box Dancer, over, and over, and over, and over...

As for the kids, I don't mind their playing and only yelled at them once when they thought my front yard was a good place to ride their bikes. I asked them to stop and they stopped. Not hard to do and no guns needed. Gun is reserved for the farker with the ice cream truck.

Back in the day the rock salt was a hand load. You only had to get hit with that once to get the idea that what you were doing was pissing someone off and you didn't do that again. We need to bring those days back.

Yeah, this is fishy. Especially since she was supposedly shot while running away. I don't see support for "aggravated battery" here.

My old neighbor had a family that lived below her, but she was a farking biatch about any noise. She would go from apt to apt putting her ear to the door to find out who was making noise. She also told my old roomie that the slippers she wears make too much noise. Her solution to any noise was to act like an 18 yo and play louder music back. She would yell at anyone making noise but I was the only one who would tell her off...esp since Id work the night shift and sleep during the day...well one day the family was making noise. By her idea of making noise they were eating dinner and clanking dishes...so she got mad at them and played really music from 10pm to 5am and I was sick of it and called the nypd on her. She got fined and a summon and a letter against her by the apt company. Apparently that does not happen that often and she won't look in my direction but no more music and weight throwing! Enough was enough and I work on aircrafts so I'm really good at tuning out loud noises...
ugh thinking about her makes me want to rageeee

Train horns work best, for example one time Little Mexico moved in next door to me. Every friday he gets paid its Corona and party time, I called the cops once after he wouldn't turn it down, they gave him a warning and blah blah never came back. I had a buddy park his crown vic in my yard.

Few dozen blasts later, the party stopped outside completely, amazing what a VERY LOUD horn does to a group of people who are probably a bunch of illegals anyway.

/my buddy bought an old police crown vic just to put train horns on it
//wear earplugs before you sound the thing off, its farking loud

If you can find a way to fire it effectively without gunpowder, maybe.
