Fark Party
Host: stainedglassdoll
Description: Saint Louis Fark Party, June 1 - Get drunk and climb on stuff, TODAY, storm or shine
Date/Time: June 1, 2013 - 07:30 PM (local time)
Party Info: Meet me in Saint Louis!  The Midwest gets no love, as Farkers tend to flock to either coast. :(

Saint Louis Fark Party, June 1 - Get drunk and climb on stuff

The party itself I'd like to have at the City Museum in Saint Louis, dubbed a "playground for adults", where you can get drunk and climb on and in all kinds of shiat (for a better glimpse, check out  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Whf1SR7ZAxc). It's the kind of place that would be perfect for a bunch of Farkers. General admission on the weekends is $10 after 5 pm.

For those of you that want to hang out for the weekend, Saint Louis has a ton of great stuff to do in the summer. Aside from the Arch (you can ride up to the top!), there is a great park called Forest Park, that is home to many museums and an awesome freakin' zoo, all free to the public. There is a beautiful Botanical Gardens as well, that is lovely to walk around in. We could even have a picnic in the park, if anyone was interested.  There are lots of bars and a great foodie scene, as well. If any events during that weekend come up, I'll post them here as well. :)

If anyone wants to organize specific outings as a group, just post and we can use this thread for planning.

UPDATE: For hotel reservation information, Bukharin has set something up for farkers at the Rennaissance Grand. To reserve a room, you can contact him at Bukharin[nospam-﹫-backwards]krafartlu*com

Alphax: Saturday, 7 pm.. nope, can't make it, unless I get fired in the next few days, or promoted off the 3rd shift.  I've been several times, though.

I know how that feels.

I work weekends and will be working from 5AM that Saturday morning and I have to be back at work at 6 AM Sunday morning. I fell asleep last night at 7 PM after work and I have a feeling it would be the same deal that weekend.

Hope everyone has fun though, the City Museum is a fun place while being sober let alone drunk.

I'll be going to work at 11 pm, getting up right before then, like I do 5 nights a week.

clivecusslerfan: I wondered how many Farkers were in the STL area.  I'm not very comforted with that thought, though.

I wondered, too! Grew up in Weldon Springs. Live in SoCo now - work in Maplewood. I'd consider meeting up for a brew at the Bottleworks for sure!

OK, St. Louisans - time for The Question......
"Where did you go to high school?"

Me: St. Dominic, O'Fallon.
Post replies below so ye may be judged accordingly...

I agree with the rest of the people who say that St Louis has lots of great stuff to do and fun places to visit.

I live in N. City up by Crown Candy Kitchen (featured on "Man vs. Food" twice) and we have a great neighborhood (Old North St Louis).  Crown probably hasn't changed anything in the dining room in at least 60 years.  It's a nostalgia trip and the ice cream is great.  I personally recommend the Black Walnut and Oreo ice creams.

Be prepared for a line though.  On Saturdays they open at 10:30.  People start showing up around 10:00 and it's a small dining room.  If you get there at 10:35 you'll probably have a 30 minute wait for a table.  Anyone coming with more than four people should expect to have to wait extra long or get there extra early.  They have 2-person and 4-person booths only.

And if you want a souvenir of the neighborhood there is a small coffee shop a few doors north of Crown on 14th st.  They have ceramic coffee mugs for sale with the slogan, "I was mugged in Old North St Louis".  The neighborhood looks rough, because of so many falling down buildings, but isn't at all.

Aw dang, I had a conflict come up but I'm still going to try to make it.  I created an account a few years ago but have been lurking for much longer than that.  I'm really eager to meet some of my fellow denizens of the Internets.  Throwaway email account is in profile if anyone is interested in getting in contact for pre-game plans, as I might have to cut things short.  I live in Soulard, within a 2-minute walk of Bogart's and ITAP, so I'd love to start there.

As of right now, both I and my wife (jetskimoo) should be able to make this.  Is there an official RSVP list, or similar?  If not, I can try and setup a Google Doc.  :)

As for food, there are some good options in downtown,, especially the Washington Ave. strip.  but, the neighborhood gets pretty shady (IMO) at night.  There's tons of good food outside of downtown, and I'd be happy to throw suggestions out there.  This is especially true if we're spreading this over more than one evening.

I'm still in.  Will have the Mrs., the offspring, and the offspring's best friend with me, though.

Which is why I'll be there the following week for my sister's wedding reception.

Still decent ticket prices for Cardinals games if people stick around St. Louis until the 3rd-6th. Though the $4 tickets sold out in an hour.

St. Louis local insider super secret: If you're wiling to stand outside the stadium at around 7:30am the day of any game, you can acquire what are called "first pitch" tickets. $11 gets you a voucher good for  pair located somewhere in the stadium. Arrive at the stadium about 30 min prior to game time to claim your tix, and you'll be let inside 15 minutes prior to the first pitch. If there are a bunch of farkers in town anyway, might be worth waiting with a group outside in the morning.

/I highly recommend bringing booze

Hey all,

Looks like the weather will be mid 80s, with scattered thunderstorms (so slight possibility the outdoor metal structures might be closed off).  I'll keep an eye on the forecast.

I think some of us were going to go to Schlafly Bottleworks (http://schlafly.com/bottleworks/menu/) for an early dinner (5:30-6ish, so we aren't too full running around the museum).  There are also concessions at City Museum if you prefer to eat there.

Some of us will also be going to dinner Friday evening, and will probably spend the day on Saturday at Forest Park going to the zoo or museums (depending on the weather).  The hotel is near the Metro stop, so please explore Saint Louis.  I happen to be fond of the botanical gardens.

Please  emailme at  stainedglassdoll at ultrafark dot com by friday if you are interested in going to dinner on EITHER Friday or Saturday, or hanging out at the park on Saturdayso I have an idea of how many people to expect.  Or just show up.  I'll try to keep things posted in this thread as they pop up.

Again, tentative  meetup at the City Museum will be at the CABIN INNon the first floor.  I'll have a name tag and big glasses so just look for me.

Thanksssssssssssssssssss (I am now a snake).

Super excited!

stainedglassdoll: Grand_Moff_Joseph: As we get closer to the event, would setting up a Google doc to track attendance be a good idea?  Or, is that adding complexity when it's not needed?

Probably not needed, unless people want to stay in the same hotels or something.  If a lot of people want to go to dinner, maybe we can make reservations.  But if people want to set up a communal document, by all means, go ahead.  This is my first rodeo so I'm not really sure what's usually done.

Our first fark party, <b>toilet engineer</b> just bought sticker name tags and a box of sharpees and I made sure the owners of the bar weren't gonna freak when 40 internet nerds showed up.

I've been on the fence since I really should be writing research papers ... but I'm in. Can use some climbing relief from the PhD study ;)

This time ... I will make it up the roller slide (running of course)! I miss those DQ parks and jammed fingers from being a kid.

Oh yeah... since I flew halfway across the country,  Keigh, you'd better show up.
