Far too good for peasants.

I live in a city that happens to be a vacation home for tornadoes that want to get away from Tornado Alley. Of the past 15 or so tornadoes to rip through town, not a single one of them has hit any of the 4 or so trailer parks. 2 of those tornadoes destroyed large patches of town, with both of them coming near to, but not touching any of the trailer parks in the city.

It's actually somewhat odd.

A question I often got from Taiwanese-  If you are in an place that has tornadoes why do you build houses out of wood?
I started thinking about the story of the 3 little pigs, and I think to myself at least we aren't that stupid to build houses out of straw.  Then I remember that yes, we do build houses out of straw and so I say -  good question.

Human development has nothing to do with the likeliness of a tornado hitting a particular place.  The trailer park meme has developed because a trailer park is a really really really really really really really shiatty place to be during a tornado.  It's a near guarantee that there will be deaths if a reasonably strong tornado hits one, and that equals media coverage, something that a tornado that only effects farmland or only slightly damages regular houses doesn't get.

Well... if you trace the path of the major tornadoes through this town, you'd see that they have swerved to miss the trailer parks at the last second, then went back to the original path after they passed... it's somewhat amusing.

The one trailer that is close to my house had no visible damage after April 27th, and at least 1/2 a dozen frame houses within 200 yards were flattened. Same damn thing last March 2nd when a smaller tornado took the same frickin path and made me cower in the closet again crying like a little school girl.

/I always had wanted to actually see a tornado... I don't anymore, but hey new roof so there's that.

Living where I live... it's more common for people to walk outside and look around when the tornado sirens go off than for them to take cover...

A tornado can throw a mobile home further than you might think. We can forego the exact physical affects.  The math itself makes me nauseous.

That is implying that a house made of another material is incapable of being blown down.

My favorite part of the movie 'Finding Forrester' is when the kid corrects the professor.
