LarryDan43: Stop saying epic.

If there is an otherwise-innocuous word that I have come to hate in the past few years, it's that one.  It gets so farking overused.

hey, at least they did it on one page.

It's the convergence of two things- people unable to write interesting sentences about anything other than themselves and what I call "the Howard Zinn Effect" where people have become unable to read anything that isn't sensationalistic or a short anecdote that has been packaged as edutainment.

Wikipedia has a nice list.  Save the CNN clicking.

Cracked is at least moderately researched and factual.  CNN isn't even "not news" any more.  It's less accurate than high-school gossip.

2013-03-18 10:01:18 AM
Since they let the bean counters run the show and stopped reporting real stories.

2013-03-18 10:03:10 AM
At least CrackedNN includes some expository text on each of the items in their listicles.

ButtFeed writers can't be bothered to contributed any original content to their "11 Animals Who Enjoy Getting Their Teeth Brushed" lists beyond pasting in the results of a Google image search.

43-year-old Barbara Ann Oswald hijacked a Saint Louis based charter helicopter and forced the pilot to land in the yard at USP Marion. While landing the aircraft the pilot, Allen Barklage who was a Vietnam veteran, struggled with Oswald and managed to wrestle the gun away from her. Barklage then shot and killed Oswald thwarting the escape.[8] A few months later her daughter hijacked TWA Flight 541 in an effort to free Trapnell.

I remember this one. The lady messed with the wrong St. Louis traffic reporter.

I wish I had friends loyal enough to break me out of prison with a helicopter :/

Except for the three-page mobile version.

Just watch "the Dark Knight" for tips on how so successfully pull a prison escape.

If you did it right and have a battery powered plane,  you can glide in all stealthy like and whoosh, away you go.  You might even get in and get out without notice.  Make sure your target clenches up first.

"Inmates were able to escape when a helicopter plucked them from the prison. The escape prompted the Puerto Rico House Government Committee to pass a regulation that allowed penal officials to fire on any helicopter aiding an escape attempt "

The guards are not allowed to shoot at a helicopter loading up inmates?  Is it determined to be potentially international cargo, or is it just guards didn't shoot because they didn't want to get shiatcanned, as it wasn't something for which they were trained?

I imagine the original idea was to not shoot down helicopters that will inevitably crash into the prison and cost more lives/damage than just re-capturing the fugitives?

...not to mention the fact that, like in this case, the helicopter pilot may be innocent and kidnapped.  Dont want to go shooting him all up...

Cracked has an office pool going over which columnist can use the words "epic" and "mind-blowing" the most in one year.

Both this list and the one in TFA are worthless without the Santa Fe NM prison escape in the mid to late 1980s. I witnessed the final few minutes of that one, with the US Customs Service Blackhawk forcing the hijacked chopper down at the Albuquerque airport. Hollywood-worthy chase scene.
