This vaguely reminds me of the various rumors in the game like getting another jar for beating the running man, or somehow actually obtaining the full triforce

Yes but Zelda: Groundhog Day, was sublime.

Ocarina of Time speedrun in 22:38 (22 MINUTES). Not the fastest, but has (live) commentary throughout about why all the crazy skips work.

SDA doesn't list any wrongwarp runs on their site, so I'm not actually sure what the current fastest OoT run is.

I prefer TASVideos.  They are usually more fun to watch.  Besides, they establish a baseline maximum on what is possible.

Agreed. I can say with little fear of contradiction that Ocarina of Time is one of the finest games ever made.

It was the second game to ever get a perfect score on EGM. It would have been the first except Metal Gear Solid beat it a month earlier. I think it very slightly beat out MGS for game of the year. It was cool having two big games duking it out. I think Majora's Mask was their next perfect score.

Yeah, I remember Majora's Mask having like a 9.7 on IGN too. Fantastically great (and arguably longer, space-time continuum disruption notwithstanding) but just not perfect

Of course it's not really a fair comparison to say one of the 5 or so best video games ever made is better than the games today.  It's better than a lot of the stuff out at any given time in game history.

Goddamnit AJ.

Downloaded an N64 emulator, OoT and Majora's Mask and played with with a 360 controller. Still wonderful, but still haven't finished MM. Would class OoT as a greater game than modern RPGs.

It's also a million times easier with a 360 controller vs the awful original.

The bow and arrow thing makes sense. That very same child Link used them in the sequel.

In Dodongo's Cavern, while Young Link, I was able to stack a movable statue on top of another movable statue, push them around, and then backflip jump to the top of the stacked statues and reach a secret area (and a Golden Skulltula!) that was only supposed to be reachable using the Scarecrow's song!  I did this because I had set off the bomb flower puzzle incorrectly earlier (I hadn't centered the bomb enough) and wandered around the dungeon for hours trying to find the way to the 2nd level.  Was really annoyed with myself when I eventually discovered the real solution.

There's a lot of neat unused content hiding in that cartridge. Odd pedestals, map differences, a couple items, unused pendants. Makes you wonder what the game would have been like if the 64DD expansion had been fully released.

I must be in an almost-alone minority when I say that Ocarina of Time sucks.  Link to the Past was infinitely better.  OoT was trying out this newfangled "3D" polygon technology and everyone just went wild for it.  The writing was childish, the controls were clunky, the fairy was constantly annoying, the bosses were too easy, and if I went off on a sidequest, I often forgot what the hell I needed to do next to get back on the main quest.  It was not fun.  I haven't played any newer Zelda games since that one.  I do sometimes go back and play the older ones. Zelda #2 can go to hell, too.  Freaking hard for hard's sake...

you are wrong and should feel bad for it.  some games are worth arguing about; the great goldeneye debate continues (console kiddies claim it was a playable game, those of us used to FPS PC games knew it was a turd) but some games are just beyond reproach.  OoT is one of those games.  The game is amazing, it was amazing at the time, and remains an incredibly fun game.

OoT wasn't perfect, but it was amazing and revolutionary. It was the first game to incorporate tons of gameplay mechanics that are commonplace nowadays. LttP was an excellent and revolutionary game in its own right, and in certain ways has held up better over time, but OoT was unquestionably more influential.

That one always felt like it should have been a different game with its quasi-rpg style leveling elements and random map battles.  But it came in that sweet gold cartridge, and that was enough.

When Child Link first leaves the Kokiri and enters Hyrule Field, and you get that AWESOME camera sweep over the area...I remember thinking "Just how the hell big IS this place?" After,I stopped wetting myself, of course.

Agreed. They kept on it too long. And I don't think it really helped the game either. But then again most in my family disagrees and can't stand the top down titles.

man, I'm sorry, but here is fact - Goldeneye, while inventive for a console shooter at the time, was a pile of shiat.  It just was.  On pc we had Quake 2.  Unreal.  Half-Life.  All of those games came out around the same timeframe (1997\1998).

Consoles had Goldeneye.  If you truly think that Goldeneye IN ANY WAY stands up next to those PC titles, then I am sorry, but you fail at gaming.

This thread's still going?  OK.  I dug out OoT again and played it for a few hours on my son's N64.  I stand by my original statement: it blows.  Controls suck, Navi sucks, the big fairies with Madonna cones for boobies look like they got hit with Homer Simpson's makeup shotgun and scream like they are being tortured when they flush themselves down their fountain when they are done talking to you suck, a completely useless mask hunt sidequest, and several optional minigames that waste enough time to make you forget what the hell you had to do next (ok, that one may just be my memory going).  Did I mention that the controls suck?  Going back to redo parts because your angle wasn't dead-on the first time is just frustrating.  The ONLY thing this game has going for it is it's story.  The design and execution of it overall fails in my book.  On the upside, my 10 year old seems to like it, but he's constantly getting lost too and asking for help.  LttP was better, and had more dungeons.  And made more sense (for a fantasy world).

\Here fishy fishy...
