I'll wait for the Russians to start making vodak from Lake Vostok in Antarctica. I'll even pay extra if it contains bacteria that didn't come from the drill they used.

I don't believe for a second that they went to all that effort for scientific research.

You've all seen that "Crystal Skull" vodka, right? I got some as a gift. I never would have purchased it myself, due to the utter wankery of the bottle and all, but I have to say, it's some damn good vodka. I was stupidly impressed. Still a bit overpriced, though.

/I mostly stick to whiskey

Licensed to capture glacier ice?  WTF?  Who issues a license for that?  Glacier ice isn't exactly hard to find in Alaska.  Might make for some splashy (no pun intended) marketing but I dare ya, I double dare you motherfarker, to taste the difference between vodka made with his ice and vodka made from water from the big su.

Meh - it's decent vodak, but nothing fantastic and the liquor stores wanted something like $50 a bottle for it around here.

I really wanted it for the bottle, but not enough to shell out that much for it.

I was actually pretty pissed at the gimmickry of it all. Associate Dan Aykroyd with it and put it in a cool bottle and charge 3 times as much as it should have cost

I can buy vodka I like better than it for less than half the price. It comes in a boring-ass bottle, but I try not to buy booze just for the bottle. (Yeah, I said ass-bottle).

same reason i stay away from 99 bajillion eleventy!!! times distilled vodka -> damned close to industrial or medical grade ethanol and water solution

You're both under the assumption that the consumers don't realize it's a load of crap to spend that much for a bottle of water.  They understand fully well that there is no added benefit, health or taste, to drinking that kind of water.  The point is that it's expensive and thus a status symbol.

Which makes it that much worse.

Seems like a waste of time, then. If you're going to go through through all that trouble to obtain a special ingredient, then it should noticeably improve the taste of your product. (Like saffron)

If you read the article that the story here links to, they don't actually distill the iceberg water. They make 190 proof hooch and then water it down with the icebergs.

So it's not exactly as stupid as that at least

THIS!  I'm thinking the guy has a horrible pallet, because I can taste the difference between water from Canton Ohio, Austin, Texas, Denver Colorado, Estes Park Colorado, and Allenspark Colorado, AND have drank glacial water right off the Davidson Glacer in Haines Alaska.

Austin is the worst of the bunch.

If that guy can't tell the difference from NYC water Alaska Glacial... he's got no business in the biz.

..and I think distilling it makes the whole thing a moot point anyway.

What the article doesn't mention is who licenses him, and whether you really need a license to wrangle icebergs.

Googling "iceberg wrangling" doesn't mention anything about icebergs, but it brings up stories about guys that keep icebergs from hitting oil platforms.
That sounds like hard, dangerous work.

Yea but freshly distilled water ice doesn't have that blue that the old "pure" iceburgs have.  It tastes better because of the blue. Which makes it pure.  ...And the cheque is in the mail. That bridge, let me sell it to you....
