but in the long run, it will upset the acid-alkaline balance in your body further. Instead, reach for alkalising, organic foods, to counter the acid-forming alcohol you consumed last night.

By stimulating them in this way, you assist your kidneys in flushing out the booze you inhaled last night.

It will add energy to your face, and improve oxygen flow to your lungs.

The problem with cage free eggs is that they end up too lean from all the exercise.

Step 2: drink a bunch of shower water.

Step 3: try not to faceplant into the giant cup of coffee you stumble to the stop n rob for because the coffee pot at home knows your sins.

The number one thing you can to for a hangover is DRINK WATER BEFORE BED.   If you're too drunk to manage that, well that's drunker than you should be.  Put a pint of water by the bed before you go out for the night, so you don't forget.

Everything else is trying to recover from systemic poisoning coupled with significant dehydration, you'll just be playing catch up which doesn't work nearly as well.

2013-03-17 09:49:15 AM
Let's face it, if you wake up in such an alcohol induced state - nutrition is not your forte'...

That said,... if you need to spew, spew,... gulp down copious amount of gatorade, use the 'hair of the dog' approach (hey - it does work) then keep moving forward. They're only electrolytes, B-12, magnesium, potassium, et al - slam those puppies down the gullet and, short of liver enzyme or dehydration, you'll be fine.

Rinse. Repeat.

This. Seriously, just have a full glass of water after every two drinks. You can get plenty tipsy and your morning after will be much easier.
Also: eat well and drink plenty of water during the day leading up to the night of drinking.

But seriously, the best way to avoid the effects of a hangover are not to get one in the first place. Once you've hit that low point, only time brings recovery.

How not to get a hangover in the first place:

For every beer, shot, drink, whathaveyou... drink 6 ounces of water. preferably immediately after the drink, but immediately before bed will do.

My mother used to swear by eating about 10 saltines before bed, too, but I've never found it necessary. Learned in the Army to drink a glass of water for every drink and never, ever have had a hangover except the time I drank all but two shots of a bottle of rum without drinking any water.

I drink a lot of water and am slightly hungover right now. I think my hangovers have more to do with alcohol not letting me sleep, than anything else.

Anyone else have that problem?

I realize that this comment is supposed to be heterocentric in nature ("rea"l (straight) men don't DO skincare) That said, having been married to a grubby perpetual teenager, I am very much in favor of guys having some basic skincare. Cleanser and moisturizer is all it would take.

Right here.  It takes me about 2-3 days to feel normal again after a big night of drinking.  A large part of that seems to be catching up on solid sleep.

Agree with an ounce of prevention (drinking water during the night) but I didn't figure that out til my mid-20's...

The goto breakfast for hangovers for me has always been: biscuits and gravy and aspirin and coffee.

If you have a really bad hangover you can forget about eating.

2013-03-17 10:25:21 AM
Drink lots of water before you go to bed - if possible - then a glass of orange juice, a bacon sandwich, a good cup of tea [proper tea, none this fruit stuff] and some type of analgesic.  Works like a charm.

When I was young & foolish, the bad hang-overs were usually caused by mixing too many different types of alcohol.

Typically, yeah. A few drinks will keep me awake for most of the night, although if I get really trashed I'll actually sleep pretty soundly.

smoke half a doob before going to sleep.

I have to admit that on a few occasions in the last six months I have woken up after not-enough sleep plus drinking and honestly couldn't tell if I was hung over or just really farking tired. This whole being an adult thing takes too much effort.
