Quite possibly, but at this point it's still alleged.

We could stop these senseless shootings, assaults, fights and riots if we simply outlawed the timed release of these shoes. They should be announced by the manufacturer as being out 'sometime in March" or whatever month it is and the various stores should be able to sell them as soon as they are delivered. Don't let the stores advertise their availability until they are truly on the shelf so no one lines up to get them.

They're shooting people over athletic shoes. We could control this with common sense laws.

No one but professional athletes require Air Jordans. At the very least, there should be a ten-day waiting period before you can purchase them.

I know, I know, "From my cold dead feet..."

That is a good idea, take a deposit and set up a waiting list. When your size comes in they call you. No lines in which to start shooting people.

Yes, certain people should get them first, professionals like basketball players who need shoes like that for their jobs.

2013-03-16 08:26:11 PM
Look, let me state the obvious: shoes don't kill people.  People who want shoes kill people.

There should be a background check and a "cooling off" period before buying Jordans.  If you cut off the supply of Jordans to convicted felons, then we wouldn't have these problems.

I don't really know anything about "Air Jordans."

I get that they're some kind of footwear...but, what makes them special and why are people fighting and shooting because of them?

Since this isn't the first time there has been a news story like this (over new sneakers) maybe you like to point out one that has a white gunmen. Good luck...the ones that make the news, it seems to always be a black gunman.

There are never lines for work boot sales. They are not hyped in the media like these sneakers are. The media in cahoots with the Nike PR machine, a key player in big footwear, gin up these things and cause these incidents to happen.

Common sense laws prohibiting these 'grand unveiling' events is all we need. They're shooting children over sneakers.

I don't see where anyone said that. I got his point to be that the PR machine of big footwear maker Nike forces its retailers to hold back stock until a certain time to create a buying frenzy. The target market happens to be urban youth, but if Naturalizer (another big footwear play - Brown Shoe Co. is huge) did the same thing with the elderly and they were hitting each other with canes there would be calls to make it stop.

Have our legislators given up on the young black men and women in our country? Why are there no calls for action to stop these tragedies?

I suppose that's what accounts for all the Republican/racist jokes about the president.

Republicans/racists just don't seem bright enough to realize that because a behavior is exhibited largely by a specific demographic does not mean that people of that specific demographic largely exhibit that behavior.

I mean, other than abject racism, why would anyone believe that President Obama was likely to modify presidential vehicles with "spinners" or oversize wheels or such?

Why would you choose the post about "subtle racist posts" to make that point?  If you're being honest, your argument would have been much more powerful standing on its own.

People stampede each other to death the day after Thanksgiving and nobody really gives a shiat and that's not confined to urban youth, it's a freaking sale and it's the gotdamm American way.

When you camp out overnight for that new shiny Xbox 1080 or whatever the fark it is next with a pocket full of cash you better be ready too!

Other than you two, I don't think anyone thinks that our president would do such a thing. Why do you have pictures like that, does it excite you to look at them and be racist in private, while putting on the concerned liberal face in public?

Like Chris Matthews bringing up the birther nonsense asking why people keep talking about it when he is the only one talking about it. You seem intent to paint everyone as racists. I think it might be because you feel guilty for being a racist.

So you think it is OK that our elected officials aren't doing enough to stop the violence in our black communities?

Read your own posts. Do you not think something should be done about these violent incidents at the Air Jordan unveilings. You don't propose any solutions you just call people who discuss them and propose solutions racists.

Why do you pretend to care, but don't call for action?

Actually, I was the one who posted the image...and, you've confused me with GIS.  It took me a few seconds to find that image.

But, let's test your hypothesis.  I'm going to start a timer and search GIS for "Obama watermelon patch."  Let's see how long it takes me to find a racist image.

Your Boobies was about not knowing about Air Jordans, then immediately went into 'everyone is a racist but me' mode. Of course you know about Air Jordans, you have internet access, you can't miss the hype about these shoes.

You're the one posting racist pictures of the presidential limousine. You start throwing out accusations so fast because I think you fear people will find out your own racism.

There seem to be two camps of contributers to this thread, those who are concerned a little girl was shot while waiting for overhyped, overpriced shoes, and those who think anyone but themselves are racists for even mentioning this story.

One camp suggested not hyping these shoes (like a new Harry Potter book) and letting the stores sell them when they arrived, or taking deposits and making a waiting list. You just insinuate or explicitly call everyone in the deliberative, lets find a solution camp a racist.

People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. You start yelling racist because you're afraid we will learn about who you really are.

What is your proposed solution to this problem? Calling everyone a racist doesn't solve anything.

Why can you find these racist images so quickly? Are they on your hard drive?

When I said 'you' it was the collective 'lets call everyone a racist, that is a solution' group started up.

Do you have a solution or do you just call people names?

They never have a point. They just like to call people who are concerned about the problems affecting all communities, including the black community racists. They don't want solutions they want to divide the nation by name calling, it makes them feel better about themselves.

If they wanted to help the black community they would stop labeling anyone who proposes a solution a racist. They have a deck full of race cards and they are always looking for a game to play them in. They are really just Jokers.

Not sure if serious, but in case you are, you're suggesting limiting free speech and imposing unreasonable restrictions on commerce.

Maybe the government could issue ration cards for shoes too. Heck, the government could even take over the shoe industry and make sure everyone had access to more utilitarian, but cheaper to produce footwear.

feckingmorons: The media in cahoots with the Nike PR machine, a key player in big footwear, gin up these things

Yes, hype sells and I wouldn't doubt if there were some sort of quid-pro-quo between Nike and mass media. What next? Outlaw sponsored links on Fark? (While some people may like that, the government shouldn't enforce it).

and cause these incidents to happen.

The media and/or Nike caused someone to commit a criminal act?

Hello..... name callers...... where are you ideas to stop these violent sneaker shootings?

Do you not have any?

Do you only have venom and racism to spew?

We thought so.

feckingmorons: Your Boobies was about not knowing about Air Jordans, then immediately went into 'everyone is a racist but me' mode. Of course you know about Air Jordans, you have internet access, you can't miss the hype about these shoes.

First, I really don't know about Air Jordans.  Maybe they're important to you; they're not important to me.  If I were asked to pick one out of a lineup, I couldn't do it.

Second, I didn't claim that "everyone is a racist but me."  Seriously, what are you basing that on?

Let's not lose sight of the fact that it was YOU who said I was exhibiting "racism [masked by] false concern."   I never treated you in the same way...so, I'm left again with the same question I asked earlier:  what, exactly, is it that you think I'm suggesting?  And, how does whatever suggestion you've discerned amount to "racism [masked by] false concern?"

They're literally the first results in GIS.  There's a reason for that that has nothing to do with me.

Happy Hours: Not sure if serious, but in case you are, you're suggesting limiting free speech and imposing unreasonable restrictions on commerce.

Sure hype them up, but set up a waiting list, or let the stores sell them as the UPS guy delivers them and not hold them back until some kickoff event which has time and time again been violent. Manufacturers have to be responsible too.

Free speech can be limited to protect the public's safety. Commercial free speech is much less protected than individual free speech.

I mean we can add more restrictions to guns - those are in the Consitution too just like free speech - to keep our communities safer, can't we ask for a little cooperation from shoe makers? Can't we have some common sense laws to address this tragic violence that is reported each time a new Air Jordan comes out? How many more people have to be injured or killed because of sneakers?

That I don't need to have these images on my hard drive (which is what  feckingmorons suggested) to find them very, very quickly.

Try it for yourself.  Seriously.  Enter "Obama watermelon patch" into GIS and see how long it takes for obviously racist imagery to pop up.  If it takes more than 1 second, you need a faster internet connection.

I don;t believe that. Your profile says you live in Atlanta and you want us to believe you don't know what Air Jordan's are. No, I'm sorry I can't buy that.

I don't want to pick them out in a lineup, but you know perfectly well what they are and the controversy surrounding their launch events and the violent episodes that occur over and over and over each time they have one of their launches.

You can't unring the bell. You said you don't know what they are and I don't believe you?

Why are you harping on this, why do you want people to find racism. Yes, we know it exists. That is a sad fact. You seem to want to cultivate it while the rest of us want to drive it into the ground.

You're not supposed to hotlink images. Why would you want to give more hits to racists? Are those your websites? Are you making money off racism?
