Meh, he's going to biatch and moan for the rest of eternity. While I have a lot of complaints about the past few seasons, they've been a big step up since the RTD-era. The RTD-era was mostly terrible terrible episodes with a few gems. The Moffat era has meen mostly okay episodes with a few gems and a few stinkers. The biggest flaw is that "fun" trumps "logic".

I'm just tired of the whining. Seriously, you watched 2.5 years of a show you claim not to like much?

Dammit, wish I didn't have to wait on Netflix to add more seasons.

I just spent a month churning through Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and am now working my way through Star Trek: Voyager; the latter is a gods-awful show.

But I'm sticking with it. I can't talk about how DS9 failspales in comparison to Babylon 5, or how really truly terribly written Voyager was if I haven't watched it. Even if that means all of it.

Grew up watching Dr. Who (Tom Baker was my first). If I've got to "Grow Up" and stop watching Dr. Who, thanks but no thanks. Matter of fact, I watch it with my daughter. Best bonding experience I can imagine is discussing our favorite episodes. Well, aside from which "Supernatural" episodes and what the earliest moments of the universe, say in the 10⁻¹¹ seconds, would have been like.

If chatting away about the formation of baryons and in the blink of an eye having a heated debate about which was the cooler vehicle, the Tardis or a '67 Impala, with my child then dang it, I don't want to be right!

Yeah. Because they have to edit it to insert advertising, sometimes they need to chop it down in size as well. To quote the Tardis Wikia:

Did that show get any better? The first couple of episodes had a "Smallville meets Dynasty" vibe that I just couldn't get into.

I no longer watch "Dr. Who." The production values are too good. I want to see cheesy props and clumsy special effects, like the old days. I want to see the wires the tardis is hanging from. On top of that, and I don't know if this is true of British TV in general or just this show, they don't know how to end an episode. On American TV the adventure and suspense goes on right until the very last minute, the problem is resolved and everyone high fives or someone states the important lesson they've all learned. Then it's final credits and a commercial. On Dr. Who, everything gets resolved with ten minutes to spare and the rest of the show is spent on character development and angst-y hand-wringing. They don't even set up a decent cliffhanger for the next episode. I don't remember that from the Tom Baker episodes I used to watch. It may be a British thing, but I find it disappointing, unappealing, and ultimately, annoying. I've got better things to do than watch Matt Smith get all weepy about how his best friends have been erased from time... forever! I just want to smack him.

You sound like someone who would love Voyager. Effects are good enough, but the writing¹ (per episode and overall) is abysmal. And they solve¹ the problem¹ late enough that there is usually only a minute or two to hand-wring or drive home the episode's lesson.

I did like Voyager. I lost interest in Deep Space Nine pretty quickly, though. TNG was pretty spotty for most of the first season, until they got to the episode where the bad guys were eating handfuls of mealworms and they blew the head off a guy and an enormous grub sticks its head out. Now that was exciting. Enterprise was dreadful, and whoever though of wasting two of the last three episodes on an "evil parallel universe" story and then jamming in the entire "founding of the Federation" story into about half an episode should be taken out and shot. I like adventure and weird aliens, not insights into the human condition as revealed by their interactions with aliens who look suspiciously like human beings in heavy make-up. If you're really interested in the human condition, there are these things called "poetry" and "literature."

In my opinion the greatest science fiction novel ever written is Jack Vance's "Tschai: Planet of Adventure." No deeper meaning, no insight into the human soul, just rollicking good adventure and the most alien aliens (and humans!) you'll ever encounter. I'd pay good money to see that in a movie theater.

Just watched the Christmas special last night. Still undecided about Clara so far. In this house we still miss Rose, but that may be just because she was the first in the new series, and it was SO much fun.

"What's the point of being grown up if you can't act childish sometimes?"- The (fourth) Doctor

Doctor Who fans take this show way to farking seriously. It is a family show that yes does make you think, but you guys seriously way over think it. Nothing can please the hard core fans of this show. You know what I am wasn't a huge fan of the RTD era, only because of how much the ruined a chance to make some characters be awesome (IE Martha). Then Moffat takes over, and people are biatching about there is no more Tennant. The female Doctor Who Fans loved him, because he was hot, and to a lot of people he was the first Doctor. So there is a sentimental attachment to it, but get the fark over it. Smith is an amazing Doctor, and I love how complex he can be with his moods, feelings, and ideas. I liked the Ponds too, yes they were getting over done, but they are gone now. So shut up. Yes this season hasn't been as strong as the previous years, but to be fair the first half was set up for all the episodes to be stand alone, because all the ideas and money went to the last half of the season. This was done, because of the 50th anniversary coming up. The show is great over all, yes some episodes suck aren't good or maybe shiatty, but get the fark over it. There is no bad Doctor, not bad companion, it is all matter of opinion. If you think you can do better why don't you become a writer yourself, so you can take over Doctor Who when Moffat's run is over.

I can watch pretty much any Doctor Who episode (original or the new) and still enjoy them.  I can't rewatch a single Star Trek episode without thinking - 'wow - this sucks'.

I wish the show could be reset back to a time when the Daleks were just starting to become a threat again. There is a great story in having the Doctor being the last Time Lord and thinking all the Daleks are gone only to have his greatest enemy show up again. It makes it scary and also very disheartening to see how much the Doctor sacrificed just to have it all be for nothing. It could have been a very long running theme that even though the Time War is over he still has his worst enemy out there. But they ended up condensing all of that into one season finale. Wasted potential. Now the Daleks are a throw away bad guy that is rarely a threat and not that scary. While a couple episodes show the Doctor's anger and remorse at fighting them, it never seems to compare to Eccelston's reaction in Dalek.

The Silence are a nice new underlying threat and it would be great to have them pop up randomly trying to influence events. I think there definitely needs to be a new goal in the Doctor's stories. They set one up at the end of last season but they really need to steer away from "The Doctor faces his biggest threat, potentially dying (again)" It's getting a bit old and you know he's not going to die but it's going to be some weird sequence of events. He needs a new threat and not something that involves the universe being destroyed.

Very excited for the new episodes. The break has been awkward since there wasn't much continuity and it feels like it has been forever.
