(MetroWest Daily News)   40 blind runners to participate in Boston Marathon. Forty blind runners. That's as many as four tens. That's not so terrible. I SAID, THAT'S NOT SO TERRIBLE   (metrowestdailynews.com) divider line 9

Meme mixing, eh?

/anyway, they are going to have guide midgets or something, right? I mean, it would be cruel to just set 40 blind people loose to wander out into the road and get hit by a car or run off a cliff or something.

FTFA:

Typically the guides, who are also skilled  marathoners, meet the blind runners only a day or two before the race. They guide them with a short tether and verbal cues.

Soooooo... the real Marathon runners are taking their blind guy for a walk?

Either that or the blind guys have been given seeing-eye runners.

I really can't see what you're trying to do there.

Uhh, some of the blind runners doing Boston this year can run sub-3-hour marathons. That's elite speed for an amateur (hell, a 3-hour marathon will qualify you for Boston as a sighted runner, regardless of age and gender); less than 1 in 4 "serious" marathoners can run 26.2 in 3 hours (heck, that's a 6:52 mile time, on average. A good chunk of 5k runners can't beat that!). Most marathoners are happy to break 4 hours (a 9:10 mile average). Those 3-hour blind runners are serious, serious competitors.

/not blind
//just a runner.
///can't break 3 hours for a marathon.
