Here comes the politics...

2003-12-20 11:58:36 PM
who cares? obviously, the bush twins' exploits have not affected their father's presidency to such a degree that it would turn someone's vote against him. why would al gore's sion smoking up hurt him? just 'cause he's a dem?

Good thing Al's not running in '04

Al might have to run considering the cast of clowns the democrats currently have to pick from. GWB/Dean 46/4 this november.

Driving while stoned is worse than underaged drinking in a bar.

2003-12-21 12:01:29 AM
At least he didn't break the second law of thermodynamics.

2003-12-21 12:01:38 AM
Big whoop. So he smokes it. I'd venture to say most of us know people who smoke it.

This just makes him cooler in my book. Seriously, why the hell is this stuff still illegal and so harmful to one's personal record? In Canada it isn't exactly legal, but it seems the police and courts are MUCH more forgiving about punishment.

As an example, if a college student is found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana, they can lose their financial aid and scholarships because it is a drug offense. If that same student has a DUI, it isn't nearly as harmful, just a misdemeanor and your car insurance goes through the roof.

I don't partake of it myself, but damn, we need to fight for the right of people to mess up their bodies the way they choose, as long as they don't harm others.

2003-12-21 12:03:35 AM
Legalize it! I am sick of hearing about people getting busted
for this.

2003-12-21 12:04:28 AM
I am going to make a prediction: This thread will not turn into a flamewar.
/ heh,heh

2003-12-21 12:05:24 AM
"a soft drink can that also smelled of marijuana.".....so like, were they smoking out of a tinner or what. You'd think that a guy driving a Cadillac could afford a nice piece. Just an observation.

2003-12-21 12:05:44 AM
Must....help....m-16sux0rz...

I bet the GOP made him smoke it.

It's all part of the same vast right-wing conspiracy that Hillary said made her husband get a BJ from a fat chick.

sepulnation626-

i seem to remember J.R. Ryder, while a millionaire basketbal player, was busted with the aluminum can bowl in his car. go figure

2003-12-21 12:10:34 AM
I could care less if someone smokes it while NOT driving a car, but the penalty for driving a car while stoned should be quite severe, just like with alcohol.

2003-12-21 12:12:36 AM
Big deal at age 21...however, when he was in 8th grade, he was caught smoking weed at his school...they gave him an unprecedentedly lenient suspension, but his parents still pulled him out and cut off all ties with the school

2003-12-21 12:12:38 AM
Uh oh. If Herr Ashkroft gets wind of this it's off to the gallows with him...

"I just wanted to ask the democratic candidates: Do you use a bong or a pipe?"

2003-12-21 12:13:25 AM
"In the summer of 2000, Gore was cited by the North Carolina Highway Patrol for driving 97 mph in a 55-mph zone. Under an agreement with prosecutors, a reckless driving charge was dropped in the North Carolina case, but he was fined $125 for speeding and his driving privileges in the state were suspended."

Damn, being able to get away with going nearly double the speed limit in a 55 zone with just a fine and no points is amazing.

From the rest of the article it sounds like his son is a real winner behind the wheel.

2003-12-21 12:14:28 AM
We can do it, Joe! I know we can...

He's supporting terrorists!! AHHHH!!

See kids? Pot will only bring you pain, no matter what all the dirty hippies who posted above say.

2003-12-21 12:16:21 AM
Ironically, when Al Gore III was being arrested, he emphatically stated to the cops that he had originally invented the blunt.

2003-12-21 12:16:28 AM
This story will die BECAUSE its a democrat kid...Joe Kennedy's little boy drowned his secretary and no one cared.....much.

Fozzy

2003-12-21 12:17:47 AM
Out west here, the cops will usually just take the bag of dope and dump it in the gutter. Or maybe they look at it and say it don't bother them, they're not looking for that. Either that, or "confiscate" the bag without charging you.

The cops in other parts of the country are just frickin weird. No wonder the rest of the country is so farked up.

2003-12-21 12:19:09 AM
It's ok when democrats do it.
/ getting hot in here

2003-12-21 12:19:46 AM
Although I agree with others (CaptBubba, I'm talking to you!) that Al version 3.0 should basically not be driving anymore, I'm wondering: does anybody on Fark care that he was smoking marijuana? Not driving and smoking, but just the smoking? Seriously, is there gonna be anyone defending the pot laws in the US? Because flame wars are no fun with nobody on the opposing side(s).

2003-12-21 12:20:28 AM
FozzyNOK,
'cept for the fact we never had Teddy be prez. So I guess you could say some folk cared a little.

2003-12-21 12:20:47 AM
So take off all your clothes...

2003-12-21 12:21:35 AM
In case anyone actually cares (I know that Fark's message boards are steadily decreasing in "neatness" as more and more people sign on; it's natural)...

Spy Magazine (remember them?) did a great story on Al Gore III in the early 1990s, describing how you wouldn't be reading anything about Gore's son getting in major trouble for drugs at his school, because the press corps decided to sit on it. The idea was, by sitting on it, the Vice President owed them a favor and they'd get a quicker call-back if they called in needing a scoop.

The Spy Magazine story was pretty explicit, saying that Gore III had been bounced a couple times for drug-related issues, and that was a little less than 10 years ago.

So as for the story being bounced or raised because dad's a democrat, it used to be the story was hidden because Dad was in the White House. Now, that doesn't seem as true.

Either way, don't be fooled into thinking this is a one-time "Oh, the kid slipped up" situation. Gore III has had issues with drug use (specifically, run-ins with authority over it) for some significant time.

2003-12-21 12:22:02 AM
Damn! Foiled Again!

2003-12-21 12:22:25 AM
WONK

True that Al's not running but I'll bet he gets a call from Mr. Dean regarding a little "spin control"

And in the interest of "equal time" with the Bush twins; it is posted on some other news sites. Let's watch and see if it has the same staying power.

2003-12-21 12:23:14 AM
That's right, everyone smokes pot. Well, everyone except those that don't want tar in their lungs, and don't smoke anything at all.

Better not expect me to pay for your lung cancer treatment in 40 years.

Dumb.

2003-12-21 12:23:56 AM
the thing that pisses me off is how easily he got off in my beloved NC
