What people were saying a few months ago... And a few before that. And a year before that. And pretty much the entire time the team has been on their run the last 5 years.

And watch - when the team wins, it's 'a team game'. But when the team loses 8 starters in a year and has a rough start? All on the QB.

Honestly, that guy is going to be miserable. He will catch all sorts of crap in Boston, which is more than you can say about Welker in the playoffs.

He would be happy to catch a lot of crap in Boston because most probably he'll never make it to Fenway without a ticket.  But you never know.

Nice, and I'm Boston fan.  They treated Welker like shiat.

I imagine its the mass exodus of talent stemming from paying one player 20 farking million dollars a year. Hope you enjoyed that ring.

Seriously, you're happy about keeping a somewhat-above-average QB who is now the highest paid player ever and forced the team to cut ties with Reed, Boldin, Ellerbe, Kruger and Pollard?

I mean, Ozzie Newsome is entitled to a lot of deference given his track record, but I can't see how fans can be happy with this.

Boston is rebuilding, so they need good potential players.  I think this is a good move for him "overall" to probably get him playing AAA ball and get a shot at the majors.  The Orioles are pretty stacked with young talent in AAA right now, so so what's best for the player IMO.

2013-03-16 01:11:50 PM
I'm sure he's just destroyed about not being compared to his brother by the local media every single day of his career moving forward.... he must really be upset.  I mean, now he has his own space without people mentioning Joe every five seconds.  I don't see how he'll survive.

Except his numbers are awful.  This is one of those physique picks where the teams think they can make the kid into a real ball player.  He's a 6'6 first baseman who probably has a similar build to his brother.  Dream physique, not much else

That's exactly why I'm keeping my mouth shut thus far. Also, losing Kruger and Ellerbe are really the only two that raised an eyebrow to me because of their youth; otherwise, you're talking about two guys entering their mid-30s and a solid but replaceable Bernard Pollard. I'm thinking Newsome doesn't necessarily care about 2013, but beyond.

It's not about being happy, it's about having a little faith in the process. No one was happy when Bart Scott left, or Jamal Lewis, Zibkowski (sp?), Sam Adams, Rod Woodson, Shannon Sharpe, Adalius Thomas... and the list goes on. We lose guys, and we find guys ready to step up and take their place.

And as you saw this year, we picked up McKinnie in the off season and he did almost nothing until the playoffs where he is certainly to be credited for his share of the Super Bowl. You just never know who is going to shine, so you have to trust the Ravens' process.

You mean the one with a much lower cap hit this year vs what it would have cost to tag him? It's not his contract causing problems this year... Joe not signing a contract would have done a lot more damage...

Go look the numbers up since you know so much.

Well, since you're uninformed of the real salary cap numbers;  Flacco is costing the Ravens under 7mil in NFL league year 2013.    The departed players who are now on other teams rosters so far have 2013 cap numbers totaling over 30mil for 2013.  Even if they had chosen to not re-sign Joe, they could only have kept 1 of the others.  ONE.  Are Ravens Fans happy?   No.  Is this Joe's fault?   No.    Is Joe more valuable than any ONE of those departed players?   Oh  ya.

The Ravens assumed the total cap number would rise faster than it has over the past few years.   And frankly, with the NFL Network on Time Warner for the first time, it probably should have jumped more this year than it did.
