Good lord.  Requiring calorie information is fine.  I look at it when I'm at restaurants, sometimes I'm surprised by the amount of calories in a dish and it occasionally affects my order.

This is just insulting, though.  There's a big difference between being expected to provide consumers with information and providing them with a cartoonish value judgment.

I'm OK with the law requiring nutritional content, although that is counter to my Libertarian roots. It helps me make the right eating decisions when eating out, therefore I will eat out a LOT more rather than buy and grow my own food. Restaurants win.

Yes.

Much in the way that I'm okay with men and women having sex with men or women, but not children or llamas, laws and regulations are not part of an all-or-nothing arena.  Smokers can stay the hell out of the bar, thank you, and I had better see detailed nutritional information when I'm at the supermarket.  Plastic bag bans and caloric information right on the menu?  Not really a big fan of those.  In the case of menus, I'd rather have that information available by request or (in the case of fast food places) posted on the wall by the condiments, like they're starting to do now.  It's a balancing act between what's good, what's sensible, and how much it affects the autonomy of people/businesses.

That said, I'd like to see more rational serving sizes on nutritional information.  If I buy a single-serving bag of chips, why the hell would the nutritional information be for 2/5ths of a bag?
