You mean like a Republican who takes a government "hand out" but is against them? That's like every Republican.

2013-03-16 10:11:47 AM
Eh, the law's the law, if it's legal then doing it isn't necessarily hypocritical just because you voted against it.  It sounds like he pretty much owned up to it when he realized he was crossing the line on legality and isn't contesting the violation, so it's not like he's arguing that this is some special case exception.  I'd generally tell people not to speed, too, and I still do it occasionally.  It's just me sometimes doing something that I agree that I shouldn't, not me deciding it's all right for me but not for you, necessarily.

It also doesn't sound like he's done more than vote against legalization bills and done some stumping against them, I'd be on his case significantly harder if he'd introduced bills to tighten restrictions or something.  Basically it sounds like his position is "I'm not personally comfortable with this being quite as unrestricted as it is, but if that's what everyone wants I guess OK", which is actually reasonably chill for a local politician.  Local pols are usually the guys making out national congressmen look sane.

//Also, if the reporter typing the phrase "the bad-boy culture of Albany" managed to do so in one go without falling out of his chair laughing he's a better man than I.

I think it's worse than that. I think he voted against the medical marijuana bill because he's a drug dealer himself. Legal medical marijuana would cut into his profit margin.

Yes, yes. We know, dear. But more to the point: we waste too much time around here speculating about people's motives for doing what they do, and talking about "hypocrisy".
If someone is trying to push social policy that is going to harm me, or harm society, I really don't care whether their motives are pure and sincere, since it makes no functional difference to me.

He probably doesn't see a logical inconsistency because he thinks that some laws, like drug laws, apply only to working people. He's wealthy, so won't decriminalize pot. If he did, the proles would be out of control. Successful people, on the other hand, can have all the drugs they want, because obviously they are not problems in society. The real story here is the overactive cop's imagination that led to him being busted. Clearly one of those working class cops who have a chip on their shoulder when they see success.

I don't mind paying taxes, I don't like to see money wasted. We need to be reasonable in our spending so that our taxes are reasonable.

Also we have too many laws, lets get rid of some of them. For instance we could make have an ounce of pot a ticket like running a stop sign - a civil infraction- not a criminal charge. It would reduce our overall police and court expense and not ruin the country.

I'm sure I'm not the first Republican to be reasonable, but then again I don't have to pander to voters.

feckingmorons: I don't lie. I don't lie about the Catholic Church. If you feel that I have please point it out.

You not only lie, but you lie about the Catholic Church. Specifically, last month you wrote, "Feckingmorans: Homosexuality has never been said to be intrinsically evil by any Pope. Simply being homosexual is not a sin nor is it evil. Sex outside marriage is.

Pope Francis, while Archbishop of Buenos Aires in 2010, stated that homosexual marriage (NOT sex outside marriage) is a "destructive pretension against the plan of God" and a "machination of the Father of Lies that seeks to confuse and deceive the children of God." IOW, he said that homosexuality itself is intrinsically evil.

Pope Benedict on homosexuality, "Although the particular inclination of the homosexual person is not a sin, it is a more or less strong tendency ordered to an intrinsic moral evil, and thus the inclination itself must be seen as an objective disorder."  IOW, he said that homosexuality is intrinsically evil.

Pope JP2 on homosexuality, "It is legitimate and necessary to ask oneself if this is not perhaps part of a new ideology of evil, perhaps more insidious and hidden, which attempts to pit human rights against the family and against man."  IOW, JP2 considered homosexuality itself to be intrinsically evil.

So yes, you lie about the Catholic Church.

Moreover, I am neither unable to substantiate my claims nor too cowardly to attempt to do so.
