IvanTheSilent: REO-Weedwagon: I've never gotten their obsession with Nancy Pelosi. I have a neighbor who has four anti-Pelosi stickers on his truck.

She's like Romney.  Smarmy, aloof, obnoxious, very easy to hate.  The reason that Obama, Biden, and (gag) even GW Bush were likable is they had a charm about them.  Obama always reminds me of a laid-back college professor (perhaps because he was one,) the type of professor that you don't mind going to his class and would hang out with outside of school.  Biden reminds me of the crazy uncle that everyone likes because he keeps the kids occupied with fart jokes and magic tricks.  Bush reminds me of the frat boy who, despite screwing everything up all the time, was always good for a laugh.  All three are folks who, to use what's becoming a major cliche, "you'd have a beer with."  Romney and Pelosi, no so much.  They're easy to hate because not only are they different, but they're snobbish about it too.

Yup.

Americans want their politicians to have at least a little gravitas and perceived competence (i.e. the "college professor"), but they don't want them as these distant, unapproachable figures that they don't feel they could talk to if they had the chance.

It is a cliche, but "you'd have a beer with him" is a big test of being likable in US politics.  Helps that Obama is a beer homebrewer and apparently loves the stuff:

max_pooper: lilbjorn: Big Gulp laced with what?  She looks more than a little scheisse-gesicht.

The hilariously moranic thing about Palin's stunt is that Big Gulps (trade marked by 7-Eleven) were exempt from Bloomberg's large sized soda ban.

Well. In her defense, she's a moron.

Also.

All of them.

He was too RINOish to win.  We need a strong conservative like David Duke or Genghis Khan to win the next one.

Summoner101: There is no length of party prosperity that the GOP can't rewrite out of their history.  These are the people that disacknowledge eight years of Bush.

They were denying that they ever called themselves "Teabaggers," about four seconds after they learned why everybody else was snickering.

Simple; she's good at her job, and she's not on their side.

Yep. She's a credible threat to them. So they demonize her.

Fox News avoided the CPAC speech completely, focusing instead on a Michael Moore blog post, Benghazi and the Steubenville rape case

They must really like rape.
