If you live in earthquake country and don't have a dependable flashlight on your nightstand you should get one.

ZAZ: One "nightstand" has drawers with clothes and condoms if I'm feeling lucky.

PSA: Check the expiration date on the condoms, they're only good for 10 years or so.

This is my Hotel Defense kit, and what my nightstand at a motel looks like any night that i travel for business:
[s14.postimage.org image 850x635]

if you've ever fired a gun indoors, you know that its 10x louder sounding. so, if i'm ever forced to defend myself in my motel room (as i often spend the night in memphis, jackson, louisville, etc) i'm prepared to do so, without so much as even disturbing the other guests.

Holy farking crap does it suck to be you.
I toured for over 30 years, and not for a minute of it did I live in fear.
How's that whole living in a state of paranoia going for ya?

Oh and by the way....BOO!

Gotcha. Ya big pussy.

In my house, we have only one bedside table, which now holds only an alarm clock and a book.  The 4-year-old and 2-year-old will make off with anything of value (e.g., a portable book lamp, spare change, a Tylenol bottle), and so we keep these objects on higher ground.

I do not understand why a preschooler and an old enough toddler don't know enough not to rummage through Mom and Dad's stuff. Don't people teach their little snowflakes the word "No" anymore?

I'm trying to fathom getting balls enough to rummage through my mother's bedroom at any age and it's simply not possible.

Geesh

Satanic panic in the attic: 3 HP? Do you have a VFD with it it to ramp it up? Or do you just ram rod it across the line?

It is an industrial model fed from  a 20 amp 220 volt dedicated branch circuit, so even with inrush current she still stays hot.
That is if 746 watts still equals 1 horsepower.

Timmy the Tumor: how exactly does one measure the horsepower of an electric vibrator?

You put it on a dyno, duh.

The more important question is what it cost to have a special outlet and breaker installed in the bedroom for the 3hp vibrator. That's like 23 amps worth of vibrating pleasure. Good for them!

You just gotta turn that sucker on and test it out. Believe me, us ladies know the power of vibrators.

Laughing.  Although around here, you can tell most of the vibrator users/testers by the chipped teeth.

Think... they're doing it really wrong.

When I left for work this morning, there was a lamp and a clock radio on my nightstand

/I'm sure those are now on the floor, having been replaced by a happily sleeping cat

I have two nightstands, one on the left side of my bed, the other on the right side. The one on the left side has a couple of stacks of books and my alarm clock. The one on the right has a lamp and a box of Kleenex on it, plus it has three drawers where I keep underwear, socks and miscellaneous personal papers. At night my phone is plugged into the charger & goes on the left hand night stand, my glasses on the right hand nightstand.
