I'm sure that the police have a very logical explanation as to where the $4,000 went and when it's all said and done, the full $2,000 will be found.

Doesn't the U S dollar, uh, fluctuate? Well, maybe it, uh, fluctuated between the time when I counted and when he counted it. Yeah. That's it.

I'm sure the authorities will locate the $2000 removed from police custody. The $1000 will, I'm sure, go right back into the evidence room where the $500 belongs.

Where's your sense of wonder, man?

I'm saying aliens.

As in, the money is aliens, and they warped home to the money planet.

It's a well known fact that money, just like cocaine, can evaporate naturally when when in police custody.

Money is mostly water.

Lt. Craig Campbell, who formerly worked in the bureau's narcotics and vice unit, instructed the officers not to count the money but to instead stick it in bags and transport it to the city's Zone 4 station, where it would remain until they could take it to headquarters to arrange for an ion scan that would determine whether drugs were present on the money.

Maybe someone should save them the expense and let them know that traces of drugs are present on an overwhelming majority of circulated currency. Or is this one of the procedures they go through for the benefit of jury members who don't know that?

2013-03-15 02:41:07 PM
They predict they'll find it in the ion scan

The answer is simple: the idiot rookie cop wrote on the receipt that $8000 extra was seized.  I've had clients tell me for years that the money reported to be seized was less than what was actually seized.  Every time I investigated, I received the same answer---"if it's not on the receipt, we didn't seize it"  Ergo it must be true, right?

This sounds like one of those cases like this:
We found $93,000 in a duffle bag which contained $80,000.
We put the $70,000 into the evidence locker.
Last time we looked, the $55,000 was still there.
But somehow, $8000 of the $40,000 has gone missing.
We need to figure out how to better secure the remaing $10,000.
I mean, $7000 is life changing money for some people.

I read the article and I have a conclusion. Since it was drug money it was assumed there were no ones. The first time it was counted, ones were counted as tens. Then during the double check, it was counted correctly. There, no corrupt cops. Nothing to see here. Move along citizen.

Yeah, I read the article too.  First time they counted it, they came up with $93,153.00, so that kind of shoots your theory down right there, unless you think there were 3 bucks in quarters.

/ps - they have money-counting machines these days.  No one's counting that shiat by hand.

I wouldn't care about them if they had comment threads. They don't, so I won't click on them even if they seem potentially interesting.

No. I used the power of math.

93,153x + y = 8000

Nothing to see here? Idiot high-school dropouts can be relied upon to count cash correctly, even large amounts. Regardless of whether or not someone actually stole 8 grand from evidence there is most certainly something to see here.

Interesting that Cmdr. Doubt has declared that the $8,000 never really existed, but was just a clerical error.  That is one cool boss to shrug off that kind of theft when there is so many cops around to arrest you.

How does anyone named Doubt ever became a cop?  They could never convict anyone he has arrested, for they tell jurors to not convict if there is any Doubt.
