That's not an umpire; that's Enrico Pallazzo.

Gosling: Dafatone: Gosling: So I guess the WBC IS like the World Cup, at least the pre-1994 era: the US doesn't give a shiat, sends a team vastly inferior to potential and goes out embarrassingly early over and over again.

Who exactly aren't we sending?

That's not to say you're wrong or anything.  I'm lazy and haven't looked at the rosters.

The pitching staff alone should have read Verlander/Kershaw/Sale/Buehrle/Dickey and instead read Dickey/Vogelsong/Derek Holland/Gio Gonzalez/we were really counting on Verlander to say yes and when he said no we said fark it and left the 5-hole blank.

Verlander and Kershaw didn't go.  That sucks.  Sale had a huge year, is poised to be great, and would have been a great addition. But Gio's fantastic, and Dickey/Gio is still as good a one-two punch as there is out there.  I mean, barring Verlander/Kershaw, but oh well.

The Bestest: David Wright was the star of the team. That should tell you something.

That Wright tends to step up when surrounded by other stars (best year being 2007 when the Mets had a good lineup, and his allstar game numbers are huge) and that there really aren't many great third basemen, let alone American ones.

robertus: The Bestest: Angel Hernandez being horrible is not news.

Worse news for the Team USA (and the Mets) is that David Wright might be done.

It's still not as bad as the news that they're still the Mets.

/Mets fan.

when the catcher almost makes it to third base diving to catch the pitch, it is probably a ball.
