How can a show be a cult if it has, say, 4-5 or more seasons?

And no "The Prisoner?"  You gotta be kidding me.

We really need a rule. If it's a slideshow, deslide before submitting. It's really easy.

I don't think Fark really greenlights deslided slideshows. Honestly you're pretty much just stealing content and hosting it somewhere else, denying the sites revenue through clicks/ads. I've seen quite a few links with a lot of comments thanking subby for desliding it already to see it just go red. I've got no problem desliding them before they hit the main page though.

Lost and Community are both way too mainstream to be considered cultish. The facts are these: Pushing Daisies was too good for television

I tried to like "Pushing Daisies", I really did.

/hubby was a big fan of "Better off Ted".  I didn't get that one either.

Most of those shows have large fanbases and are appreciated among the general tv viewing public.

I'm not sure these are cult shows so much as they are popular shows.

Now Sidekicks featuring Wing Luke is a cult show.

And they are all too recent.  I only recently found Rod Serling's Night Gallery - which only lasted one season (1969).  The stories are pretty good.  And I loved the Hitchhiker growing up.

The commercials for Better off Ted always made me laugh and made the show worth watching by themselves. Pushing Daisies was difficult to watch, too many distractions were in the show.

ST:TNG is a cult TV show??

Right.....

Does the original six episodes of Police Squad count as a cult show?  Because if so that is my number one.

That's a fascinating definition of "cult TV show".

Yes.

X Files however, does not.

Nice to see Farscape on there, even though I've never seen a show so maddeningly inconsistent.  How can you have "Crackers Don't Matter," "Meltdown," and "Different Destinations," alongside pure crap like "Scratch n' Sniff?"

I have it ripped on DVD, and I keep meaning to watch it, but damn, those first few episodes are slow.  Slower, even, than B5, which is saying something.

Dark Shadows, Kolchack: the Night Stalker and The Starlost.

Those were so bad, they were good.

seriously. some of those shows were farking monsters. people bought some series on VHS and later replaced them with DVDs. morans.

Cult?

I think this should have been titled "26 TV shows the author could think of"

Loved that show! Just checked Netflix to see if it's available for streaming, and sadly it is not :(

How about "Dead Like Me"? or "When Things Were Rotten"?

Also, does anyone remember a short-lived series that spoofed the variety show genre called "Viva Variety"? I'd love to find that show on DVD.

Yeah I can see that. I liked both and still miss both.
Dry humor and intelligent whimsy are easy to dismiss by the masses (not a shot at you/ just a general observation)

Having said that the list is full of massive fail.

'Cult' is usually taken to mean 'little known' and calling 'The X Files' 'Dr. Who' and 'Battle Star Galactica' 'cult shows'  proves just how shiatty EW is as a magazine and web site.

For all their years of pushing 'Alias' - constantly writing articles about it and mentioning it in columns and articles - it was still a shiatty show.

To me the only really 'cult shows' were 'BOT' 'PD' and 'The Comeback'.

'Community' is a 'cult' show after being on for years?

EW is run by idiots and attention whores.

And I as a 20 something.
Interesting fact: The woman in the pic - Marie Someone - went on to marry Michael Creighton.
It didn't last as all his marriages didn't but DAMN! was she a knockout!

I'm cool and edgy! I watch obscure cult shows like ... Lost?

/Lost sucked
