Indeed. Had Mitt Romney been running the country that figure would already be 5 million instead of 300,000.

Mitt Romney's shadow presidency will forever haunt the country.

They're becoming millionaires in response to an alternate fictionalized history where Sarah Palin became president and Obama was eaten by a bear.

Where's the obvious tag. Only a complete moron would even think to label Obama a socialist.

Hey now. That is a little unfair to compare morons to the GOP base. The morons are much brighter than that.

Presidents have very little if any influence on the US economy (except for FDR but he was more of a continually elected benevolent permanent president). The economy is influenced more by the policies of the Fed by several orders of magnitude. Presidents get both the blame and the credit for the state of the economy. Neither is warranted.

The wealthy are doing just fine, which is why no one in government is doing anything to fix the economy for the rest of us. We are a plutocracy.

Pfft. Inflation.  He's still an Omuzzified Socialbummer.

Hooray! The stock market is doing great. That means things are great for everyone, right? If the stock market is at a record high that must mean real wages are also at a record high, unemployment is at a record low, and the middle class is healthier than ever. That's just how the economy works.

2013-03-15 11:19:21 AM
Yeah, being that he and essentially all Democratic politicians are conservative capitalists, they wouldn't make very good socialists in general.

Yep, it means those job creators are sitting on so much wealth, they should be pissing their spoils all over us in an unprecedented golden shower of trickle down.  Oh, you mean those job creators aren't spending even a fraction of their wealth as much as a middle income person would?  Unpossible.

a 4.5% increase in millionaires? Isn't this a natural by product of inflation?

That's because 30 years ago he'd be a Reagan Democrat or just a straight up Republican.

So what you're saying is that trickle-down economics doesn't work?

When you compare the growth in millionaires vs. gdp and population growth you can conclude the number of millionaires has actually shrunk under Obama. So, conclude it.

How is this a surprise to anyone, never mind people that work in The City that are meant to know the basics of their own jobs?

Gunny Walker: a 4.5% increase in millionaires? Isn't this a natural by product of inflation?

Inflation will affect it, but 4.5% is probably way higher than what one would expect from our inflation rate.

Agreed. Interest rates are near zero so stocks are where the money is flowing.

Expect a major correction the moment QE Infinity ends.

I was referring to the governing style of the man today, not the idealist 30 years ago.

Bill and Hillary Clinton were pot smoking hippies.

The realities of governing have a way of changing a person, and not just by graying their hair.

We wouldn't have 300,000 new millionaires if they did that.  Won't someone please think of the millionaires?

As John Cochrane of CATO points out, QE is not the same as printing money because the Fed has to take in something in order to put out the cash. Printing money doesn't take anything in first. You can swap an IOU for cash all you want, back and forth, and you're not really changing anything.

Adolf. German is a very phonetic language, they don't need "ph" to make an "f" sound, just because the Greek root has it...

All I'm saying is this is direct observational evidence that contradicts that theory. For a lot of people that doesn't mean anything.

What's telling is that they list those with $500K a year...the merely affluent...as still much lower than at the peak before the crash.  I wonder just how much lower than the peak the $100K/year category is?

/100K should be about 80th percentile; it's actually higher than that.
