Killahertz: It's just occurred to me ... observed from the correct angle, the US congress bears a striking resemblance to professional wrestling.
clkeagle: What's the worst that could happen - getting challenged in the Primaries next year? Worst case scenario - he loses his congressional seat, and goes on to make $25k/day on the lecture circuit. Or gets a seven-figure contract with Fox News (or one of the Super PACs).
Karac: Translation: Shutting down the government didn't work to well for Newt so lets no try that again, you morons.
Killahertz: It's just occurred to me ... observed from the correct angle, the US congress bears a striking resemblance to professional wrestling. It involves a large cast of mostly interchangeable and forgettable jobbers, with a few superstars whose main job appears to be to generate hype and drama rather than actually get in the ring and do their job. These superstars are often accompanied on all their public appearances by large entourages of said jobbers. Factions are formed along contrived ideologies, and picking a fight with someone else simply because your respective faction loyalties are opposed is held up as the epitome of good conduct. Designated mouthpieces of the factions engage in endless verbal circling and sparring matches, but at the end of the day nothing has been decided. Supposedly the position of "superstar" is determined by the response of the crowd, but in reality the greater organization has nearly complete control over how events are portrayed and blatant manipulation of what is presented to the crowd is the norm, in order to ensure that the crowd maintains the "correct" opinion. There's even the occasional surprise defection from one of the superstars to an opposing faction. Personally, that's the hope I'm desperately clinging to right now: Boehner has successfully built up a ton of heat from the crowd, the time is perfect for a out-of-left-field heel-face turn.
Tomahawk513: SilentStrider: Boehner to be primaried in 3...2...1...I doubt it, Cincinnati is conservative but most of them aren't retarded. Still though, who knows, it could happen.
born_yesterday: Boy, when the Bush administration left, they sure took that whole "Unified party in the face of any adversity/no public disagreements" philosophy with them.
