This. I would think they were running Windows 3.1 or something equally archaic. Anyone remember the picture of their mission control room for rocket launches?

North Korea actually has some of the most advanced electrical infrastructure in the world just constant cyber attacks keep it from working.

North Korea  isn't THAT bad. They've got dial up and Kim Jong-un runs his own BBS.

I hear he's thinking about running his own FIDOnet node.

Impossible because their web sites are not connected to the internet. Seriously, they have their own intranet.

Everyone jokes but this is one of those exceedingly rare cases in which Best Korea is most likely correct.

Not saying that like it's a bad thing, just saying.

Wait, wasn't the commodore the system with the first "computer destruction" virus - which was actually just a code routine you could put in that would destroy a coupel of chips? In which case, let's dust off the 5.25" floppies boys!

The common person there has no internet access at all. Very very few people have ever used the true internet, with any luck this will change soon. There is a national intranet operated in universities and study houses, this contains mainly academic data for studying, some games and chat facilities etc too. but this is not something people can use widely and not for hours at a time. The intranet contains (I am told) no adult material at all, making it utterly distinct from the regular internet

There's no reason to hack into it, from where I sit.

Well, the first problem was they were trying to generate the excess power they needed for the server by burning any coal dust they could use from the residential ration program.  Problem there was there wasn't any.  So Iran sent some dude named Faruq who was a master of fission.  Except it was a huge misunderstanding, as Faruq was a master performer with fizzing.  While entertaining, there was no way to generate the power required by Faruq's amusing ability to fit thirty Alka-Seltzer tablets into his mouth.  So instead they raised the money for the power the old fashioned way:  They conscripted the Iranian as entertainment in a telethon.  For one hundred and twelve straight hours, Faruq spun around with a chicken in his teeth while the children of the audience beat him with their sandals and called him an infidel.  The North Korean state run papers were abuzz with the amazing feat of Faruq's performance which netted them many tens of dollars.

North Korea and Iran are fast friends even to this day.  The chicken did not make it.

I feel I should share this gem with all of you.

Official Government Website of the DPRK

Make no mistake, this is the premiere web presence of totalitarian dictatorships in modern times. Smooth flash animations, tastefully appointed elements, and yes, even an e-commerce site where you can purchase genuine DPRK propaganda mugs and DVDs.

The fact is, if you're a murderous despot who's looking to have the best website in the concentration camp councilor's club, you're going to have to beat this glorious sheet of HTML. It is the gold standard.
