(KSDK St. Louis)   This one time, at band camp, our teacher saved us from wrecking when the bus driver passed out at 70 mph. No word on flautists   (ksdk.com) divider line 36

My band camp story involves less people but more action.

Isn't it time to put governors on school buses and limit them to 35mph?

What do you do, hot shot?  What.  Do.  You.  Do?

Flautists?  If only I'd known that being extra gassy could somehow be put to musical use...

TheHighlandHowler: Pretty big bus.

A bus normally holds 45-50 passengers... they must have been packed in there like sardines.

That was my first thought, either it was a huge bus or they were overloaded. The number seems way too high.

Did I get here on time to whine about anybody using the "Hero" tag, for anything, ever?

I hope everyone brought an extra pair of underwear because they probably needed it after those unexpectedly solid notes escaped from their ass tubas.

When I die, I want to go like my father. In his sleep and at peace with the world. Not screaming and terror filled like his bus passengers.

Read that on the Internet way back in 93. Between that and the porn, I knew I would like the internet.

I caught my step-daughter and her friend experimenting with one another while they were supposed to be practicing their recorders.  I didn't handle it well.  Now her mother is pissed at me and thinks that I'm incapable of being a father figure to her.  Well excuse the fark out of me, Dr. Spock.  Who knew that waving a fistful of tens and screaming "ASS TO ASS" would shake the little darling's confidence?  I think I'm going to move back into my condominium.

Full-sized school busses seat 65-78 elementary students (3 to a seat).

Not to completely discount his heroism, but seriously...  I'm quite sure that a good bit of self preservation was his motivation.  If there were a single child in his way, he would have thrown them out the window to get to that driver.

//George Costanza would approve.

Well my best band camp story doesn't involve any instruments in orifices, but it does include a 5 way.

I apologize for nothing.

I think it's warranted in this case. A bus wreck at 70 miles an hour would probably have been dreadful. Bus passengers usually don't wear seatbelts.

Where do you live?  Kids wearing seatbelts on the bus is state law in most places anymore.

Exactly. Every time anybody applies the tag to some mundane but meaningful act of decency or courage or resolve, someone seems to find it needful to dismissively quibble about what does or doesn't constitute a "hero" in their book - and, usually, their "book" is a GI Joe comic book.

Your bus had seatbelts?

None of my buses ever had seatbelts.  I road the bus in middle school from 1999-2002, so its not THAT long ago.

129 passengers? That's ridiculous, even for Georgia.

From a completely unrelated incident: Megabus spokeswoman Amanda Byers said the bus was at full capacity, carrying 81 passengers

That's a MegaBus double-decker. 81 passengers in what I am assuming is the usual 2-and-2-across motor coach seating.
A large school bus can have 84 13-inch seats which means small children, and it's usually never loaded to that capacity.

Here's a story with better info. Three busses, one of which had the problem.
