deanis: Abacus9: Allow me to adjust my onion belt while I explain what's REALLY wrong with Gen Y. It's their music. In my day we had real music: grunge. Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins (whiny emo shoegaze grunge, but still alright when Billy Corgan wasn't raggin' it). Nirvana and Pearl Jam were never truly grunge by the way. Nowadays we got what? Fun., Death Cab for Curie? All garbage. I still listen to grunge while I rock my ripped jeans, flannel shirt over an old and faded black rock T-shirt (not a "tee" by the way) and stomp my Doc Martens to the beat of whatever Candlebox tune happens to be playing (on CD, no ipod) on my tiny little $15 boombox from Meijer. And I ain't gonna be outshined by no lousy Millenial.

Cool story bro. I can't tell if you're serious though. Tell me what the difference is between your self described persona and the old, wrinkly bleach blond haired weirdos who can't get enough of 80s hair metal? You basically chugged all the kool aid from the 90s that you could get your hands on.

The difference is better music, and I still listen to it. The rest was somewhat exaggerated.

Oerath: L.D. Ablo: Doubtful.  Millennial precious snowflakes can't handle conflict and treat strong opinions as if they were hate crimes.  They cry their little eyes out, call you a bully and think that will shame you into being nice.  Go see how that strategy works against Big Oil or a Too-Big-To-Fail Bank.

The Boomers are fat and happy and are not going to change their ways.

Gen X will end up mucking it out in the trenches to make things work again.  Then the Millennials will take all the credit and pretend like it was their idea all along.

Have you met GenX? They are far and away the more obnoxious generation. I'm kinda right on the line between them and Millenials, and while the young'uns can piss me off quite a bit, GenX is second only to baby boomers when it comes to whiny self-entitlement. Also, any problems with Millenials can generally be traced back to GenX.

You don't seen to know any GenXers. All the ones I know never expected a thing.from anyone.

Frederick: IMO the current school age generation is far more compassionate than their predecessors.  Probably not as motivated to achieve, but more apt to get along.  The intelligence gap is wider between students; there are still exceptional kids and poor performers, but they are not as likely be found in the same classroom like they were 20 years ago.

I wouldn't say that, it's probably about the same as far as compassion goes. Nowadays you hear a lot about bullying on the news, but it's not a new thing. Still, I wouldn't say this generation is any more compassionate, just more self-absorbed. I've got younger cousins around high school age who can't go 30 seconds without looking at their stupid phone.

You sound like this guy.

You also sound rather silly insisting that the band that made grunge part of the mainstream and paved the way for every other band you named isn't grunge, but that's neither here nor there.

As a "Millenial" I don't care, you sound like a grumpy out of a touch person anyway.

Seems as if your snark meter is broken today (hint: intentional misspellings are a sign I wasn't being completely serious).

I definitely give them credit for popularizing and mainstreaming grunge, but there are other bands that contributed and would have still done alright if Nirvana never existed. Soundgarden had been kicking for about 7 years at that point. Besides, I was just pointing out that, at least by '91-'92 (golden age of grunge), Nirvana was no longer a grunge band, more of a punk-sounding Pixies ripoff band. And In Utero sucked.

Well I was just sad that some many Gen Xers were hating on my generation so hard, especially when that was the generation we looked up to as kids.
