For those who didn't read the article carefully:

She didn't actually take any courses as a centenarian.  Rather, the school board voted to give her a diploma for completing almost all her requirements in 1925, figuring if she lived to be 106 they can overlook a missed reading assignment.

She never returned COmmandments 11-15 after she checked them out, so they never got included in the final draft.

You Are All Sheep:   Can't you say that living life and having that life wisdom is worth a POS paper?

I got in touch with my long-lost dad several months back and was catching up on what's been happening with us for the last 20-some years. Told him I was about to finish up a bachelors in business, and he gave that old "Well, my school is  the University of Hard Knocks!" retort. It was all I could do not to reply, "and with dozens of failed attempts at running your own biz, it's obvious you haven't shown up for any classes."

If you don't actually absorb learnin' from your life experiences, you're not really gaining any wisdom. Kinda like how those people who say "I'm not book smart. I'm street smart!" are usually neither.

This makes no farking sense at all.
She was assigned to read a certain book.  She had already read the book.  All she had to do was open the book, flip through all the pages and say "Done!", and she wouldn't be lying.

Her daughter, Lavata, said Williams refused to read a book a teacher assigned. Williams said she had already read it once, didn't like it and wasn't going to read it again.

Doesn't sound like the brightest way to hand that situation.

depends on what you're trying to do I suppose.  I've learned all my design software and 3D design ability from being on the job, not from school.  Most people fail at starting a business.  It's actually pretty scary.  Unless you're coming from overseas.  Then no taxes and all kinda bennies to help your business thrive.  Worst thing to starting a business is being born here in the US.

Yeah, it IS tough to get a successful business going anywhere. It takes a helluva lot of hard work and planning. My dad's main errors are that he primarily just wants to be called "CEO" of something (doesn't matter what kind of business), fully expects to make a lot of money quickly with little work and (this is the biggie) he extends credit to anyone who wants it, based on a handshake with no signatures required. I wish him well and all, but damn dude. Stop making the same mistakes over and over again. Sheesh.
