Is this a follow-up to yesterday's article where a source said none of the servers were actually doing city calculations, just making sure all the social aspects worked?

I don't really care, I love every greenlight that slams EA.

Someone should have told EA that hiring Baghdad Bob as PR guy was a bad idea.

I don't think the game is selling as well as EA would have us believe.  think about it - they've been caught in several high profile lies now.  why should we believe them when they talk about sales figures...?

They sold enough for their servers to be overloaded.  Obviously they were expecting it to suck more than it does.

yeah, because they lied about the game to customers.  once that initial rush was over, I suspect sales flatlined pretty quick.

It doesn't matter if they knew they were going to sell 1 thousand or 100 million, the servers were going to stay the same. They don't bother on expanding the server infrastructure because the initial load will die down after a couple weeks.

They knew the perfect storm was coming, but instead of boarding up the windows and stocking up on supplies, they went and took a nap in the hammock.

Works without the 20 minute timeout, but no region stuff... how is that not in line with what we already knew?

Also, am I the only one making active use of the region stuff?

I haven't spend enough time yet to "get" the regional stuff on a useful basis, but I can see the advantages. I started off trying to make three complimentary cities and ended up making three disaster areas, so I've got to rethink my process.

We all know EA are going to reply with a shower of shiat, if at all, and then find ways to stop this debug mode working in future.

You start in a "region" made up of 5 open cities and a "great works" site. The 5 cities can work together, sharing resources. So, one can be a dirty mining town supplying power and production for a nicer city. I really like the idea, though it's an adjustment to think in terms of balancing the region instead of just managing one city.

The city size is still giving me fits, though I'm adjusting. The city size limit is much smaller now.

I try but the threshold to get a trading hq is so damn high that I've never done it. I tried to do it with oil but could never trade enough to get any of the upgrades (refinement or plastics). I even started stock piling it for a while until I had three trading houses (with all attachments) full and then started trading, still couldn't move enough product in time to get the upgrade. I think EA has put it out of reach so that we can't mess with it right now. I'm betting in a few days (maybe 2 weeks) they will lower the per day amount so we can get it rolling.
I have a fully decked out Processor plant and couldn't get it done. New Lichtenstein (that's the town name, cool I know) already has one plant and I dont think I can get enough products to start a second. This doesn't mean I'm not going to try tho. Maybe with the new recycle plant and the trading I can keep two going.

I'm abusing the shiat out of my neighbors' excess electricity, water, and sewage capacity.

My big complaint is that my neighbor's oil costs the same as the "global market".

The latest rumor is that somebody has managed to unpack the game files and the vast majority of the game is written in javascript.  If true, it's possible that we may end up seeing pirated & hacked versions of the game that are far better than the retail release.

The new land I'm on I treat my neighbors like they owe me money! I jumped in late and they already have so much fire and police that I damn near don't need them. Plus the Bonds are already at 100k so my town build was super quick. I love it. It's the only land that I have found that I can play on that has other people.

I hate the find game map! Why show me pages and pages of games that are full?! What's the point of that??

The other examples/stories/problems I have listed is off my main land where I have three towns (one was a mistake so i hardly ever play it). If you find me get on that one. I have all the city hall departments so you don't need any!

It'll definitely go down as one of the biggest. We have yet to see whether it inspires some real change in the industry. I hope this scares publishers into realizing that always-online BS and DRM are not necessary for a successful product and all they do is hurt the customers that actually pay for the product.

But this is EA, where they'll lay the blame on Maxis and say people have lost interest in IP and no one will suffer except the devs that were forced to make the game EA wanted, not the game the fans wanted.

Well, my city was up around 130k at the time, and I was maxed out on recycling pickup & delivery trucks AND trading depot delivery trucks, which had easy no-traffic roads to the interstate.

I don't remember. I think it was 12. Asides from a multitude of other issues, the one that bothered me the most was having to unlock every type of building every new game via reaching a certain population. Simcity 4 handled that aspect great by keeping it to a special buildings that would unlock organically as you played and as you needed em. I don't know why Cities screwed it up so badly and decided whole sections of the game should be locked.

Lots of reviews knocked the game for this and I decided to try it myself and I have to agree, its a awful design choice. If they fixed that I might go check it out again.

Works great on my old-ass Core2Quad, 4GBs, in a 1600xsomething windowed mode.

That being said I'm currently in ragequit because I'm having a hard time figuring out the NAM/RealHighway mod thing, I'm assuming because I'm stupid.

If they just make the social aspect of the game "appealing" or "necessary" from a strategy standpoint, they could let the pirates have their watered-down version of the game and allow the paying customers to have the full experience.  It's not like EA doesn't know the product code of every single disc in circulation.
