Uh... not really seeing the Batman comparison here.  Iron Man is an outright tech hero, with standard-issue superpowers that just happen to be gained through technological instead of biological means.  Batman is a gadget hero, with no super-powers beyond the Charles Atlas variety and a toolkit.

If anything, Iron Man is more a poor man's Green Lantern (albeit the tech is alien in that case).  Single item, gives a big set of superpowers, in the possession of someone whose primary character trait story-wise is that he's an arrogant douchebag.

Eh, Iron man's armor is more of a logical conclusion of the rich guy superhero thing than cars and gadgets. His "costume" is more functional. I know Batman was going for theatrics, inspring fear etc. I'm pretty sure flight, super strength and energy blasts are scarier than bat ear hats.

but they both rock

I have enjoyed Downey as Tony Stark but Iron Man is one of the lamest characters of all time. At DC he wouldn't qualify for the. Legion of Substitute Heroes auxilary.

I heard that Stan Lee invented him on a bet that you couldn't make a popular comic out of an unlikeable person.

A rich playboy arms dealer during the Vietnam War?

In the 70's most of Masrvel's "second tier" characters were far better written then the "first tier". See Dracula, Conan, Master of Kung Fu, Man Thing, Captain Marvel, etc. etc.

The shoulder pads aren't what make that costume great, it's the fact that it's the only Red and Silver armor Iron Man has ever had that makes it the best armor.

/the traditional red and gold was left with Rhodey at that time, who was still an Iron Man after he took over during Tony's second drunken era. Then after the Armor Wars, Tony switched from best armor ever to this horrible armor...

Legion of Superheroes required that the person have at least one power not dependent on a device.  Iron Man is disqualified from the get-go.

I'd still put him up against Bouncing Boy, Matter-Eater Lad, Stone Boy or Color Kid.

It was designed in '88 or '89, which explains it all.

The follow-up armor design was pretty good.

x.annihil.us

everything sort of went to hell after that, with the Crossing, Teen Tony, and a Jim Lee designed Heroes Reborn armor.

Its complicated

Nolan batman movies are a little better than Iron Man movies

But Iron man movie character Iron Man/Tony Stark is better than Nolan batman movie character Batman/Bruce Wayne

I don't know anything about comics so thats up to you

They weren't.  That version was a form fitting layer of flexible mesh that was reinforced by
the repulsor effect between the boots, gauntlets, torso and helmet.

Even with his playboy lifestyle Stark still excersized regularly.  The armor was designed to
enhance his natural strength.  So the better in shape he was, the more effective the armor
(and the longer he could wear it without getting exhausted).

If Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark were to swap places, maybe as a dare, by the time Batman had brought his awesome skills to bear taking down one Iron Man opponent, Gotham would be virtually crime free, the Joker would be vapor, and Tony would already be showing Catwoman why he's called Iron Man.

I am a huge Avengers fan, and I'll admit that The Dark Knight was a better movie, even though not as fun really. But The Dark Knight Returns places below every Marvelverse movie and Batman Begins. It really should have been better.
/Even though the Bane storyline works better in the Nolan films than in the comics.
//first visit Bane should have had after "breaking the Batman" was from Batmans best friend. And then Bane goes to prison whimpering

Me either. I'm sort of sick of the chronic overrating of the batman. Unless the other guys are around to bring in the big money villains he's generally engaged with completely mortal causers of mayhem.  As often as not he's tangling with pickpockets and muggers. Glorified neighborhood watch with an unlimited budget and a penchant for industrial design.

Batman: The billionaire bachelor who for some reason always has an orphaned teenage boy along his side. When one is inevitably killed, Batman just finds more sweet teenage cannon fodder to dress up in tights and fight crime. Typically a kid who just lost their own family to an act of violence and is looking for the attention of an older man as a father figure.

Tony Stark is a drunk, but at least he isn't a farking pederast like Batman the buttpirate.
