I hope he turned it down because he knows there's a certain type of film he can only do and he knows he excels at it.

Stop the presses!  He actually turned down a movie?!?!?!!

They probably told him he would have to sign a lifetime exclusive contract with Disney.  Ever notice how actors like The Rock or Tim Allen are stuck making Disney, Touchstone, and ABC movies/shows?

Maybe he'll stage that intervention for Gerard Butler.

Other studios want Tim Allen and The Rock in their movies?

Maybe he saw the prequels and realized that this franchise isn't really known for quality. Truth be told, except for Empire, the writing has not been particularly good on any of the movies. Maybe Episode VII will be better, but so far, there isn't a script.

And maybe he doesn't want to be stalked by acne-riddled Star Wars fanboys at every restaurant, theater, concert, or sporting event he goes to for the rest of his life.

Say what you want, but Dwayne Johnson can be a decent actor with good comedic timing. I thought he went the kids movie route because he wanted to do movies his kid could watch. He's been slowly returning to the action genre, although I'm still skeptical about the GI Joe sequel he's got coming out.

He's turned it down because the plot of Crank III is that his brain will be stolen and replaced with a hamster on a wheel, and his body signs up for Star Wars VII along with Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson and he has to steal his own brain back from the director, Michael Bay while boning Amy Smart when they're dangling over a Saarlac pit.

I was surprised that Dwayne Johnson was actually a pretty decent actor. And right now, we need more action stars to replace our aging action heroes of our childhood.

That's pretty much what he said, actually.  "I like realistic films and outright action films, and while I understand that other people like scifi I'd be bad for the movie because I'd feel like it was stupid."

Albeit remember we're talking about a hypothetical job being offered here, if we were talking an actual offer we're talking Disney-level monetary incentive so they could probably pay him enough to remake the Pacifier if they really wanted him specifically.

Okay, first off, realistic? Like, "Speed, but in your chest cavity" realistic? And second, what this really translates to is, "The using the words business ain't me thing, mate."

I know that he's done films with scripts a damn sight better than Attack of the Clones. The script for that flick makes Crank 2 look like Taxi Driver.

He does the kids movie thing because its a steady income stream. You might as an A lister get maybe 1 or 2 action films every year or so, but hook up Disney and they can pimp your image in 4 or 5 movies.shows.events.etc.. a year. A lot of that money gets pumped in his and his ex wife's philanthropy activities too.

Someone keep Lucas away from any sequels.  Distract him with a plushy of Jar Jar.  Bury him alive if you have to.  Just keep him away from any scripts.  Timothy Zahn or someone like him should handle it.

He should have done the Conan remake, not Jason Mamoa.  At least The Rock looks like a force of nature.

I did not mind Jason Mamoa doing the Conan movie. He did a good job at it. And the first time I saw the Rock in a movie was in that horrible movie called Doom... which made me die inside on how horrible that movie was. Fark Hollywood producers for not acknowledging Hell in that movie.

I love all sorts of movies from the film snobby indies to ridiculous action movies.

I know many of you will hate on Jason Statham and action movies in general, but he's good at what he does...and the first real action star we've had since the 80's (the Rock and Vin Diesel don't consistently do action movies).

Statham knows where his bread is buttered and will continue to do action flicks.  The Star Wars universe may not be appealing for his type of film.

I would not pay to see a movie where Jason Statham is hired to perform a heist and protect a girl and has to drive ridiculously expensive vehicles wrecklessly to do so.  So, I think I agree with you in that he couldn't headline a Star Wars film.  But if Jimmy Smits can be Princess Leia's adopted father, then there's probably room for Statham somewhere.

I actually enjoy Jason Statham. I always refer to him as Handsome Rob, no matter what role or what movie he is in. I also like Dwayne Johnson. Walking Tall is one of those guilty pleasure movies for me. I am not a Johnny Knoxville fan, but loved him in that movie. If I find it on TV, I'll get sucked in and end up watching the rest of it.

We need to cultivates these action heroes so we can have The Expendables 14 in 10 years.

I agree. Not every movie is a billion dollar blockbuster that takes 10 years to make. Jason Statham is the current reigning king of the action movie. Make them for cheap, modest box office, big DVD rentals and sales, and move on.

A movie is judged by what it sets out to do, an action movie is meant to be mindless fun watched with beers at home with your buddies. In that respect, Statham does great work.
