Its like a trophy!

2013-03-14 10:03:02 AM
Yet again Wenger is trying to deflect attention from the fact that his team just wasn't good enough. You were beaten by a much better team without even a slightly dodgy red card to blame. You suck and you are holding back Arsenal.

One season without a team in the quaters is just a statistical blip. If the same thing happens next year then yes the EPL has a problem but not until then.

I suppose you could use the millions of Euros it comes with to buy a trophy

Pretty much this. Spurs were ousted because Chelsea WON IT last year. United were out after a dodgy red card and a phenominal goal. Also, Spurs, Newcastle and Chelsea all have a chance to progress in the Europa league today so I think that merits some discussion. Wenger proves once again he is full of malarkey and unable to say something negative about his own team.

You suck and you are holding back Arsenal.

If you believe this you're an idiot. Arsenal is practically a model for how a team should be run and maybe excepting Barca they are the best run club outside of Germany (which due to their rules is far,far and away the best run league in the world).

If by "best run" you mean hasn't won anything in a decade, yes, they are.

That alone is a pretty good argument that the EPL is doing OK. It's hard to say that a particular league can't compete on a high level when they have the defending champions.

Remember that one kid that always showed up dirty, and his mom always "forgot" when it was their turn to bring the juice boxes for after the game?

I hate that kid.

Two English teams performed as well as any Scottish team in the Champions League this year. So they do have that going for them. Well done.

Rory McIlroy and Bubba Watson missed the cut for last year's US Open. Those two obviously had a terrible year on the golf course.

Small sample sizes are fun!

Off the pitch Arsenal is one of the most stable clubs financially in Europe yes but on the pitch Wenger has had the money to spend to bring in players to keep them fighting for the top but he hasn't spent it. It's sad to see a manager grow stale but still insists on following the same dogmatic formula that brought him success a decade ago but that has happened at Arsenal. The longer Wenger stays at Arsenal the longer they will struggle to get into the CL and without silverware filling the Emirates will become more and more difficult. Another CL season like this one and England will only get three CL places and do you see the current Arsenal being ahead of Chelsea or Man City? Plus Spurs and Liverpool are now starting to fire and are looking like overtaking Arsenal as well.

SAF had lost the best player in the PL two years ago and what happened? Lost the league on goal difference last season and is now clear and now looking like they will win it this year. Just by spending money smartly on RvP, Kagawa and others to strengthen his squad. Who has Wenger brought in to replace Nasri (IAC) and RvP? No one close to their ability. At one time you could mention Wenger and Ferguson in the same breath but now people will look at you funny if you said both managers were equal.

Norfolking Chance: Plus Spurs and Liverpool are now starting to fire and are looking like overtaking Arsenal as well.

I'd be surprised if Liverpool can overtake them. Pleasantly surprised, but surprised nonetheless. Between Arsenal having a game in hand, and I'm sure getting a bit of a confidence boost playing pretty damn well yesterday, I can see them getting on a bit of a run.

but on the pitch Wenger has had the money to spend

Ah, but does he really? Or is he just a company man when it comes to taking the heat? I'd posit he, in fact, doesn't have any money to spend for whatever reason. That makes a hell of alot more sense then just sitting on a fortune like Scrooge McDuck, because ownership could insist on him buying if that was the case.

And after rereading what you originally said, I'm guessing you weren't just speaking about "finishing 4th" this year.

I'll just stop talking now and I'll be over here if you need me...

Arsenal and Liverpool have similar schedules as far as strength of the remaining opposition goes. While I too would love Liverpool to pip into a CL or EL place, it's probably not going to happen. Unless, of course, Tottenham pull a Tottenham and Chelsea falls off.

Either way, this looks to be a hilariously clusterfarky end to the season in regards to CL & EL placing given how everything is turning out.

Is that the same Chelsea who became the first holders not to qualify for the knock-out stages?

Beaten by a better team? Did you see the game? They lost on away goals, beating Munich in their own back-yard, something not many teams have done this season.

UEFA Cup thread?

Spurs one-nil down in Italy after 20 minutes. Should still be ok.
Newcastle will do well to get though tonight.
Chelsea still in with a decent chance.

Have I looked at tickets for the final. Yes I have [ouch].
Went to the UEFA Cup final in 2007 - great game, 2-2 after extra-time and I was even in the right place to see the penalties.

Now that Ajax is out, there may be more available. And have they even announced through the official channels. I thought about putting my name in the lottery but realized we were not going to get that far :D

Here's hoping Chelsea and Plzen get knocked out

Actually it was a perfect time. 3 up..get it out the way. Forget needing a scoring threat..they just need to hold inter to under 3. They just aren't doing that part very well.

They look like a different team without Bale out there.  I know it's their plan to not be super aggressive, but still...

It's one of those 50-50 things: if they advance, he's clear for at least the next few rounds, if they crash out, you'll hear the "one man team" arguments.

Spurs are Spursing it up in this game. Playing a high line, but continuously getting burned by it. Also giving the ball away in midfield and wasting scoring chances with a totally ineffective forward up top (Adebayor) leads me to believe it will be quite iffy for them to go through. Less than 20 minutes to hold on though...

To be fair, Lennon, Sandro, and Michael Dawson are also out (Lennon just subbed in) so I don't think it just has to do with Bale. Also I don't think AVBs tactics have been on point in this game. Also Livermore and Kyle Naughton have sucked in this game.

Holy shiat, way to go Gallas. Now Spurs have fully Spursed this game. farking incredible. Why the fark would he touch that.

OK...rank the final eight in the Champions League. Here's what I have:
1. Barcelona
2. Bayern München
3. Borussia Dortmund
4. Real Madrid
5. Juventus
6. Paris Saint-Germain
7. Galatasaray
8. Malaga

2013-03-14 03:43:38 PM
I do have to say though in true Italian form they have been going down like nobodies business, but not getting booked for some reason. Spurs get hacked and get  booked for diving. A bit inconsistent.

2013-03-14 03:44:23 PM
Wow. that had a little on it.

Inter parking the bus so they can go to extra time.

Gallas has been farking pathetic tonight.
