Why would the Democrats keep subverting the will of the American people?  Didn't we make it clear how we felt about Omabahussein's policies during the recent elections?  How dare they stand in the way of the Republican mandate.

It's only a mandate when a Republican president barely squeaks into office.

Didn't you hear? The republicans retained the House by losing 6 seats, so they have the people's support behind them.

I remember hearing a few Republicans saying that, because they didn't outright lose control of the House, the American people obviously approved of the job the Teabaggers were doing.

/No, they didn't care that they lost seats, or that they got fewer votes and only avoided getting thrown out on their asses because of gerrymandering.

I wish -- *really* wish -- that ridiculing these people's stupidity was enough to make them lose political power.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work.

....so....we encourage them to be this stupid since the opposite should work? Yes? Yes....

That was a very interesting inside-Washington kind of piece. It doesn't give a lot of hope that we have anything but more political polarization in our future, however.

What it does show is there is still a lot of Old Washington wheeling and dealing going on outside the inflamed rhetoric. There's just not any key substantive issues that are getting resolved.

The key is getting under these folks' skins and pushing all the right buttons so as to enrage them, whereby they then expose what they really think in very public, visible ways. The rank and file are so dumb and predictible that this is not hard. Obama has used this strategy a bit but it could be pushed much further. These Teabaggers haven't learned a thing from the election and their views get increasingly ugly and ridiculous by the week.

I agree completely.  The only thing that bothers me is that this is happening now, and could easily be forgotten by the 2014 elections.  I doubt they'll have changed their strategy and position by then (people don't just accidentally become "sane" and "intelligent"), but I want them to be in the middle of a full derp explosion when the elections come.  I am, however, hesitant to imagine how much further they can take the DERP.  I mean, they couldn't even stay clear of an obvious issue like RAPE during a Presidential election season, for fark's sakes.

I think your sarcasmometer needs some tweaking.

It isn't a budget... you can't read that and tell me it's a budget. It is full of vagueries and soft numbers with phrases like "close loopholes for 400 Billion dollars." They don't want to make a real budget because they'd rather Obama be the one to be a grown up and actually decide what programs to cut. Also, Ryan's budget cuts revenue by far more than it cuts expenditures, yet somehow (sans math) this balances the budget over ten years.

This is actually pretty much true.  The House is completely a "tyranny of the majority" setup, which is one reason the Senate is reluctant to fix the filibuster.  If the GOP retains the majority at all, there is no structural reason for them to compromise or moderate.

And in the Senate, all you need is 41 to have a majority...

My secret hope:

Step 1: The Democrats retake the House and hold the Senate in 2014
Step 2: Using majorities in both houses and the White House, a bill legalizing gay marriage  goes into law
Step 3: Sit back and watch the crazy bigots, tea baggers*, and dominionists show the voting public just how insane they are. I mean, if a gay marriage bill actually got put into law in late 2015 you might actually see the GOP become so reactionary to it that they just might nominate Santorum (oh please, oh please, oh please, etc.)

*not actual tea baggers (NTTAWWT), of course. Rather, the dumb ones that yell about taxes and entitlements while paying next to nothing towards the former yet receiving the latter in abundance.

Uh, no. If it weren't for the gerrymandering the GOP created, they wouldn't have retained the House.

Gotta love the GOP, when the going gets tough and you can't get a majority of votes, disenfranchise as many as possible and rig the system so you get a majority of power without the majority of votes. I also love how they're doubling down on the idea that they don't need any new ideas or need to adjust at all...They're losing by increasing margins, and all they care about is ideological purity, not helping the country.
