The pictures are old news. Perhaps the demotion is new and counts as follow-up.

Yeah, the new news here is the demotion.  Should've been tagged [Followup].

One could argue that it's impossible to bring any more disrespect onto many departments, so personal misconduct is the only drum they can beat.

Looking through the pictures, I am going to venture to say that the bikini ones didnt bother them near as much as the one in which she is clearly in an HPD uniform. They don't like that shiat at all.

If she'd have killed someone instead, she'da got a goddamned raise. And if you think I'm being snarky, you don't know Houston.

Seriously, why would you bench the sexiest cop in America? She could be your mascot. People would surrendering for shiat just for the bragging rights to say she handcuffed them personally. And her partner? Something hewn from granite who could take down 80's Mike Tyson with a forearm shiver and slap cuffs on him in the time it takes you to say "He stole my bike!" to keep her safe.

Let me get this straight...posting erotic pictures of yourself online (and in no way related to your job) gets you demoted. But if you get caught (on camera and sometimes on the job!) breaking the law in any way, you get paid leave and are NOT demoted? I don't know if this is grade A stupidity or misogynistic.

I'll also bet that she didn't tell any of her superiors that she was modeling on the side.  Houston PD apparently has a policy that you have to fill out some form and tell them that you're moonlighting.  If she didn't do that, then she's in violation of that reg too.

I'm reminded of an acqaintance who was into the BDSM scene. He told me he was considering a career in law enforcement. I told him "OK, but the first time you get a boner while putting someone in handcuffs, you have to quit" He looked at me... and said nothing.

Thank you, Darkscout - I was about to post the exact same quote & comment on it.

So I want to know how posting pictures of yourself, even nude ones, is either (a) illegal (unlawful activity) or (b) degrading to the employee, or (c) disrespecting the department.

They (the department) obviously felt that this wasn't bad enough to fire her over, but just wanted to get her "out of the public eye" by assigning her to the property room (where only other officers will interact with her, no public contact).

SO their  version of the Champaigne room?  Do they still get to stick dollar bills down her gunbelt?

Heh. :)  I just don't understand why they would care.  If she was working in a strip joint and making her uniform part of the act, then I could see them caring.. but modeling? BFD. As long as she's doing it on her own time, the only person who should care is her and her spouse.

Seriously? This is bringing disrepute on the police dept? That's what they are hammering her for?

Meanwhile the guys over at the Fire Dept are posing for this years new fireman callendar, and wearing less than she was.

Seriously, I'm a guy and kinda sexist and even I see the huge honking double standard here. HPD should be ashamed of how they're treating her.
