That Patriots haven't done anything in recent memory that has worked out.

IAmRight: Just keep telling yourselves that, Niners fans.

The Niners have been to the NFC championship and the Superbowl the last 2 years.  Why would it be silly to expect a similar result?

Cuz the butthawks got Harvin?  Please .... the league is going to be game-planning for their short ass QB this year.  They won't sneak past anybody now.

The Seahawks were in the Super Bowl in 2006, but this is the first time in 20 years you guys have been excited about your team?

I think there's a huge difference with the two, however. The current team; there's been a several-year buildup. Let's go to the point differential:

Last Holmgen year: -98
Mora year: -110 (bottomed out)
First Carroll year: -97 (but made the playoffs and beat the defending champs)
Second Carroll year: +6 (but the 49ers decided to stop sucking so no playoffs)
Third Carroll year: +167 (and that's with the offense not really doing anything for the first 1/3 of the season)

They're getting better as they get younger, and now they actually added a WR who can get open. They actually look like they have a future.

Those Seahawks were aging, and the prior years, they had the "we want the ball and we're going to score!" game, followed by losing to the f*cking Rams at home in the first round. So they were 0-2 in the playoffs heading into that season.

That Super Bowl year got exciting as the season went on, but there were never the expectations prior to the season, nor promises of a bright future like there are now.

Sucks how his era at USC led to the only successful era within the last 30 years and reestablishment of that program as a national power. What an asshole. He should've totally led investigations into everyone's personal lives and their family's lives.

Okay, I'm totally late to this party, but hot diggity-damn! I'm not sure what I'm more happy about: that the Broncos got Welker, or that the Patriots DON'T have Welker.

The surest way to attract a bunch of Seahawk fans is to write a post or an article that mentions the Niners.  But not the other way around.  I wonder why it could be that the hawk fans have a stick up their ass so bad about the Niners, but the Niners fans couldn't care less about the hawks.  Go to any article on ESPN or wherever on the web about the Niners and you'll see it's true.  It's almost as bad as Bruins that go into rabid retard mode, spamming the comments section of any USC Football article.

This totally negates the point that 49ers fans spew sh*t all the time in the comments sections of articles that are ACTUALLY about the Seahawks. This is about potential Super Bowl matchups, and only a fool would assume that the 49ers have it locked up. When was the last time the Super Bowl runner-up made the SB the next year?

Oh, the Bills.

I suppose if we can't win a SB, watching the 49ers become this generation's Bills would be hilarious.

The Seahawks went to a Super Bowl seven years ago, and lost. They also made it to a conference championship in 1983, and lost.

You claim that 49ers fans don't care about Seattle.  I listed the reason why: the last time the two teams met, the 49ers looked like an overrated college team.  The previous time, they barely survived against a limited offensive playbook and several drops by Seattle (though that game always reminds me of when Lynch bowled Goldson over twice on the same play).  So, brag about the SB as much as you like, but you know, deep down, that if Seattle hadn't gone into goofy protect mode against the Falcons, the 49ers probably would have been slapped around again.

I dunno if it makes you feel any better, but I've never seen a single minute of either of Denver's Super Bowl wins. Both Sundays, I was called in to print a bonus section of the USAToday, and had to listen to the games on the radio, while working.

I also worked at the Saint Paul Pioneer Press for eight years, and of the 40 pressmen there, I'd say there were about 22 Vikings fans, maybe 15 Packers fans, and the rest of us heathens. The Packer fans weren't in the majority, but by god, you'd think they were. They gave the Vikings fans hell. whizbangthedirtfarmer: the last time the two teams met, the 49ers looked like an overrated college team

lost a game that didn't matter and went on to secure the 2nd place spot in the NFC playoff bracket.

THAT is Seattle's biggest accomplishment in the 2012 season?  Any now you're just destined to win a SB because you won some regular season game that didn't mean anything and got passed your wild card opponent only to lose in the 2nd round?

Also ... they were getting manhandled by the falcons and wouldn't have even gotten into the lead if they (the falcons) hadn't gone into "goofy protect mode" as well.

We'll see in 6 months though, anything is possible.  Should be an interesting season, especially in the NFC West.  I know one thing though - if the Seahawks do end up being juggernauts and make it to the SB, you won't see 1 tenth as many Niner fans being biatchy little haters with nothing better to do than troll hawk articles and talk shiat.

Ohhhh, I have doubts about that.  One look at the Seahawks Facebook page show that there's a mix of about 60% Hawks fans and about 40% 49ers fans.  I'll be sure to note, by the way, that is SF beats Seattle next year, to called it a "regular season game that didn't mean anything."  At the time, it meant quite a bit, and if the 49ers had lost to AZ, then Seattle would have tied for first place and gotten the bye.  But that doesn't mean anything.

As far as the Falcons game goes, you clearly didn't watch.  The Falcons stayed in press coverage and mostly man-to-man the entire game.  Carroll made the adjustments and Wilson tore them up, no matter what they tried.  They were a victim less of Atlanta, and more of their own poor start.

A fellow media guy myself, but I was in sports media, so watching was kind of my business. It's all good ... one Super Bowl win, on a day when our defense couldn't stop TD to save our lives, John Elway deserved it for his grit and Favre began to show his true colors (i.e. untimely interceptions, which were the real reason he only won one ring), is not enough to form a rivalry.  You guys were the better team.  It was just heartbreaking for those of us who were fans dating back to the days listening to the radio when games at County Stadium were blacked out in the 80's, given how the team had captivated the state for a few years up through that point.

My uncle was a priest in North Dakota for almost 50 years and became known as the "Packer priest" in the land of Viking fans for the assortment of Packers' items that dotted his yard and his living quarters, so I know all about the rivalry on that side.

Never was in-studio for anything too big sports-wise, but was the only guy in the building when  Columbia disintegrated.  One of those mornings that you know you have to take to the air to tell the story, but you never get over what's in the pit in your stomach.

Are you implying the game where the 49ers were up 27-6 with 2 minutes to go was in doubt? Or are you saying that Atlanta played poorly in a game they led for all but 25 seconds?

Pfighting Polish: You guys were the better team.

Maybe, but we didn't know it at the time. Favre had his aura, and the Pack looked invincible. Plus, the Broncos were a wild-card team.

The USAToday shop that I was working in was in Marin County, California, so everyone there was a '49er fan. Everyone there was rooting for the Packers, just so they could see Denver take a beating again. I bet that if you asked them today, they'd say "Oh yeah, I remember that. I was rooting for the Broncos all the way!"

The next year, the Broncos dodged a bullet. The Vikings were the best team in the league, and maybe the best of all-time up till then. Then their previously perfect kicker failed, and we got to play the Falcons instead. I think the Vikings would have eaten us up.

I'm sure that many of them rooted for the Packers (or said they did) just to tweak my nose. There was more than a few there that I didn't get along with. I had a lot of issues with some of their work ethics. Still in all, Marin was a wonderful place. I love the Bay Area.
