spongeboob: Isn't it common for Evengelical Christians to marry young so they can have sex and then regreting it?

Bingo.

Exactly how I feel about gun control.  Government doesn't belong in the bedroom or the gun cabinet.

Yeah, exactly the same thing.   Guns have been around as long as sex and are just as natural.

is it possible for you to enter a thread without sucking on your guns like a bag of dicks?

How exactly should you suck a bag of dicks? Do you have to suck them all to climax?

"Like a bag of baguettes"....such beautiful imagery...

DirkValentine: However I expect to bepersecuted and don't cry about it. Some Christians around the world lose their lives because of their belief.

I've heard that exact quote almost verbatim. My response was something to the effect of "so then you're telling me you personally have never been persecuted."

nmrsnr: spongeboob: Don't forget Lot, offering his virgin daughters to be raped by a crowd and then later getting both of his virgin daughters pregnant. But that is okay because he was drunk and they came on to him

I left Lot off the list because both the rape-y townsfolk and the incest are seen as bad things in the Bible, so we do agree on those values. Tricking your father-in-law into thinking you're a prostitute so that you can get impregnated by him is totally a-ok, though.

The rape-y townsfolk may be seen as bad, but if Lot is the sole righteous man in Sodom doesn't that make his actions righteous, so the offering your daughters to be raped seems to not be wrong.

Married people should not be allowed to write laws.

DeaH: scottydoesntknow: Where there was that one guy who was struck down by God for pulling out.

Onan? He was married (to his brother's widow).

And he was "struck down" for not marrying his brother's widow, not for jacking it. The jacking it was just what he chose to spend his time doing rather than bone Tamar.

// there are several lessons taught very differently in the Christian and Jewish traditions
// Onan is one, Lot/Sodom is another

factoryconnection: I'm assuming that you disagree with their stance, as I do.  Then you should be happy that this politically-influential group consistently sticks to adding to their own derp-storm, which will either end up rendering them irrelevant or dragging down the like-minded politicians they endorse.

Eventually (it'll get worse before it gets better), but that doesn't really hinge on whether or not they believe their own bullshiat. Televangelists rake in millions without believing it. My post was a bit snappy and I apologise for that, but any consistency on their part is pretty irrelevant. A change from the usual hypocrisy, I suppose, but still irrelevant.

Besides, that consistency will fly right out the window as soon as they're caught banging rentboys in a brown-stained motel room.

Emposter: hillbillypharmacist: Brushing aside millennia, thousands and thousands of years of wisdom, tradition, culture...

F*ck your culture and tradition.  I am not beholden to it.  It means nothing to me.  And I'll fight at every turn to keep you from pushing it on those who don't follow it.

Not to mention he isn't even right factually or historically.  Not that that ever seems to stop conservative bigots.

Surely the culture and tradition of millenia was already swept aside between 100-500 years ago in the US...

I say we ban the Family Research Council. It's been around, what, since the 1980's? That's seems too modern for "thousands and thousands of years of wisdom, tradition, culture...".

Old enough to know better: God help us all if people like this ever get any real power.

I may enjoy Steampunk, but I really don't want to go back to living in the 1890's.

I doubt that would ever truly happen. The US has far too many clubs, trashy reality shows, and projectile weapons per capita for anyone to effectively ban one-night stands.

come on, get real.

You know that little farker means single WOMEN should be punished.

It was only when contraception was introduced that we being immoral, loose, scandalous, whory, ta-ta-in-your-face-waggin, pussy flapping in the breeze sluts*!

*and I thank you!

2013-03-13 04:48:05 PM

CapeFearCadaver: the 1972 case that overturned a Massachusetts law banning the distribution of contraceptives to unmarried people, may rank "as the single most destructive decision in the history of the Court."

Why do they want so many goddamn babies? Seriously, why so many babies?!

One has to ask them this question:  Destructive to what?  Your paternalistic view that women are chattel?  If that's what they are so worried about being destroyed, then yes, I'd agree with him.  I glad that has been destroyed.

DirkValentine: My dad told me not too long ago that he feels persecuted as a Christian after I sent him a link to a story about.....something.....i think it was about gay marriage and/or gay-bullying. I sent it to him b/c he's anti-gay and I thought the story captured more of the human aspect of it and how it must feel to live feeling second class and/or persecuted (not sure if i used that word). That's when he told me how HE felt about HIS situation. I facepalmed right out of my chair.

A similar thing happened with my mother regarding organized prayer in schools, and how Christians were being persecuted because it wasn't allowed anymore.I finally asked her "Did your teachers lead you in prayer?".That stopped her for a moment, and she said, "You know what? They didn't.I wonder why I thought that prayer was being banned?".

Never mind the fact that there will always be prayer in school of the "Please God let me pass this test kind", and "Please God I hope she deleted those pictures from last weekend" kind. What's not allowed is teacher or administration sanctioned prayer that is a part of the school schedule (officially or otherwise).

I've had an acquaintance claim persecution because one of her family members asked her to tone down her "Praise Jesus" attitude at a non-Christian, Native American funeral.

It seems anything that damages that fragile superiority complex causes cries of persecution.

Oh look, another conservative who doesn't grasp the concept of inalienable rights.

2013-03-13 05:14:21 PM
Well, societies have always forbidden that, there were laws against it.

Technically true, but also somewhat misleading, as while there have in fact always been societies forbidding it, none of the western cultures from the 1600s and 1700s from which the US inherits the majority of its customs are among them, and while there are laws against it they only exist in places no right-minded westerner would ever want to live, like Saudi Arabia.

In fact, most of the examples forming the basis of this statement are fundamentalist Islamic theocracies, which is kind of a weird thing for a Christian lobby group to reference.

Fart_Machine: Why does anyone take these clowns seriously?

No one really does, but they're loud and annoying enough that politicians will occasionally give in on things they don't consider important just to shut them up for a bit.  They're definitely not one of the lobby groups that gets to write policy these days.

I like the Family Research Council guy.  He's completely wrong and crazy, but at least he's being honest about his true reasons for opposing contraception.

If only all religious anti-contraception folks were this honest -- it would be quite refreshing.

You're wrong.  He understands them EXACTLY as his revered 'founding fathers' of this great god-blessed country.  Woman were property and only white male land owners had any opinion worth considering.   Sadly, he sees that as utopia.

2013-03-13 05:17:33 PM
The longer society allows the criminally insane to live among us, we will never progress as a culture.

2013-03-13 05:17:52 PM
You know what other piece of wisdom, tradition and culture every human society has had for thousands and thousands of years?  Prostitution.  It's the way things have been done for millienia -- is the FRC demanding a return to traditional values by legalizing prostitution?

2013-03-13 05:18:16 PM
You know we should insert back in to mainstream christianity that the only true path to remain pure enough to get into heaven is to never have sex...never ever. that should solve the problem in a few generations.

Duke Phillips' Singing Bears: BunkoSquad: sammyk: Is there any subject you wont try to insert gun control into the conversation?

Be fair; there hasn't been a gun thread in like 40 minutes.

Hey guys! Is it time to talk about gun control?

No, we have to wait until a bunch of kids are shot and killed before we can talk about how now is not the time to talk about gun control.

It is important to note the Family Research Council agrees with many teenagers. Anal isn't sex.

"Pollsshow overwhelming public support for protecting gay and transgender people from discrimination on the job. But that doesn't matter to FRC, which has a lot invested in convincing its supporters that LGBT equality is incompatible with religious freedom.

Religiousness is incompatible with freedom, or at least the brand this jackwang practices is.

Jim_Callahan: In fact, most of the examples forming the basis of this statement are fundamentalist Islamic theocracies, which is kind of a weird thing for a Christian lobby group to reference.

Gotta disagree with that. I don't find it strange at all. The ultra paranoid, fundamentalist right wing brigade takes its lessons from America's enemies, like Sauruman peering at the Dark Lord through the Palantir.

First they absorbed the nationalist propaganda machine from the germans.

Then they learned how to use cultural paranoia and military brinksmanship as a way of life from the USSR

And finally, they most recently love and admire Jihadi types, who so stalwartly refuse to bend. They saw young muslims blowing themselves up for Allah, and decided that it was good and admirable to become more like them.

At this point, they are just a caricature of all of America's greatest enemies, rolled up into one.

As someone who is not currently single, I say FARK YOU to the Family Research Council.  What people do with their hoo-has and wing-wangs has nothing to do with you, provided they're not breaking the law or trying to involve you in it.  Find something else to stomp your feet and rant about, like fluoride in the water supply or the remnants of an alien spacecraft at Roswell.

So his wording is poor, but he has a point:  historically, societies made it a bit of a no-no to have sex before marriage.  And he's got a point there.

But he is being completely oblivious to the fact that in these societies, people have always done whatever the fark they want, especially when it comes to sex, and laws don't really ever impede consenting adults. (or minors for that matter, but that's a different subject).

As for his comment:

"Brushing aside millennia, thousands and thousands of years of wisdom, tradition, culture and setting in motion what we have."

Welcome to progress.   We used to merrily burn folks we thought were witches and heretics, owned slaves,  and eventually moved past all that too.   You're more than welcome to move to some stuck in a time warp 3rd world religion-centric shiathole if life here is such an abomination.
